presentation of the FJR 1300 AE 2015

One year after the redesign of the FJR 1300 (A) and the appearance of its robotized gearbox + electronic suspension(AS) version, Yamaha is marketing an intermediate version, the AE. Quite simply, a FJR 1300 A with electronic suspension; or a FJR 1300 AS without the robotized gearbox. The manufacturer's range thus includes a successful Grand Touring machine in 3 variants to best meet the aspirations of its clientele. It has to be said that the market has become extremely demanding, and that it's no longer enough to have a good engine, a quality chassis and excellent roadholding to earn a place in this segment. A plethora of equipment is also required. Does the FJR 1300 AE have what it takes to earn a place among the best on the road?

aesthetically speaking, the FJR is a real winner. This bike has always been a class act, with a few sporty bits in its design and a stance worthy of a grand dame. Phase 3 is even more evidence of its imposing, feline elegance. The look grabs you, the volumes call out to you: whether the road is short or long, it's going to be all right.
On board, the atmosphere is not as technological as on a BMW R 1200 RT. But that doesn't stop you from feeling a certain devotion on board. The bourgeois dashboard is packed with information, with a rev counter on the left and two digital windows. One provides you with the essentials for driving (speed, fuel, driving mode, etc.); the other informs you of the gear engaged and the suspension mode selected. We'll come back to this in the next chapter.
Seen from a static position and/or seated at the controls, the building unashamedly betrays its desire to cut through the road. The luggage compartments are class-leading: 25-liter fuel tank and 2 x 30-liter luggage compartments. For day-to-day comfort, heated grips and a 12V power socket are standard; the seat, handlebars and fairing panels are adjustable, and the windscreen can be adjusted electrically. As for the engine, its big breath isn't afraid of much, and the 2013 evolution of the FJR 1300 has given it 2 more horsepower. With 146 units in the 4-cylinder and torque peaking at over 14 mkg, the FJR fears neither load nor distance.

When it appeared in 2001, the FJR 1300 scored big points on the chassis side, with its aluminum perimeter structure. You could almost guess that it was sporty. Equipped with a large 48 mm fork in the standard version, the GT adopts an inverted fork here. Here's a sign that instantly identifies an FJR with electronic suspension (AE and AS models).
Assisted by servomotors, all you have to do is select one of the factory presets to set the desired damping. 4 profiles are provided to satisfy the most common uses: solo, solo with luggage, duo, duo with luggage. Each of these settings can be completed with a preference for damping: soft, normal or hard mode, allowing 12 combinations. And if you want to fine-tune the suspension even further, each mode can be adjusted over a range from - 3 to + 3. FJR à la carte.

incorporating all the technical solutions of the FJR 1300 AS, but without the robotized gearbox, the AE is well supplied with technological evolutions. In addition to cruise control, the GT with the 3 tuning forks is equipped with a YCC-T electronic throttle, deactivatable traction control, and the D-mode system for choosing your map and riding style. An S mode, giving the FJR a sporty profile; or the T mode, for Touring, with a more gradual arrival of power.

with its pilot-operated suspension, well-designed equipment, majesty and performance, the Yamaha FJR 1300 AE makes a strong case for itself to appeal to long-distance riders. The quality/efficiency/price ratio is among the best in its class. All it needs is a heated seat and integrated GPS to annoy the class benchmark, a certain German....

2014 FJR that I've owned for 10 years (like new)... I've been trying to find a replacement for 2 or even 3 years .... BUT Nothing on the market that interests me, It really has EVERYTHING this bike (except GPS indeed). It is my 3rd FJR (2006-2008 and 2014). I find "NAVRANT" its abandonment in the catalog YAM ... it is sure that I change brand for the continuation, they take us for fools to want us to pass trails road for road ... I am appalled by this decision and the incomprehension is complete. I have 53 years of motorcycle. Grand V to all and long life to moto planète. Rating : 5/5
