presentation of the TUONO 1000 V4 R 2014
The Tuono V4R belongs to a breed of its own among roadsters: one that's designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, while the others are content to atomize the limits of the road. It's not for nothing that Aprilia is a three-time World Superbike Champion; and this excellence in sportiness is found not only in the RSV4, but also in large doses in its Tuono streetfighter. Big, big watts! A chassis to loosen corners! Factory-derived electronics! You've been warned. But let's not stop there, let's let 2014 add a touch of extra efficiency.
Totally intoxicating, the 65° V4 gains in responsiveness. From 167, it climbs to 170 hp. Reduced internal friction, a reworked exhaust system and improved mapping make this mill even more responsive. A real mix of punch, adrenalin and Red Bull awaits you when you turn the right-hand grip.
But before you pull the pin, it's best to know that the chassis will hold up. No worries with the Tuono V4R: it's Superbike without the fairing. The 10-kilo aluminum perimeter frame and reinforced swingarm are retained. On the other hand, Sachs has supplied a new 43 mm fully adjustable fork, and Brembo has fitted M432 monobloc radial calipers. The suspension package has been recalibrated to offer a little more comfort on the road. The new, slightly more accommodating seat and the slightly reworked ergonomics are in the same vein. And to ensure that the pleasure lasts a little longer, the fuel tank capacity has been increased from 17 to 18.5 liters. No luxury when you consider that the big V4 is a glutton for good measure.
At Aprilia, we wouldn't dream of serving you a block of dynamite without the addition of advanced electronics. The Tuono V4R comes standard with APRC and Bosch 9MP ABS. The latter is disconnectable, and has 3 intervention modes (Track, Sport or Rain). The roadster is equipped with 3 fuel injection maps, and the Aprilia Performance Ride Control package has been updated. Mainly concerned are ATC traction control (8 levels of adjustment) and AWC anti-wheeling (3 levels). They are joined by Ride-by-Wire, AQS shifter and ALC stop-start assistant (also 3 levels). Fortunately, there's no need to plug in a laptop to adjust all this; it's all done from a control on the handlebars.
Let's face it: this new chapter in the Aprilia TuonoV4R promises to be even more accomplished. And yet, the previous Tuono was already a damn fine machine. Fierce, sporty, thundering, this high-ranking roadster is held together by the electronic fairy, but will require driving skills to get the most out of it.

Every time you twist the right handle, you get a banana under your helmet. It's a pity that maintenance is so expensive (1,150 euros for a 20,000 km service, excluding tires and chain kit, which calms things down a bit). But what a joy this bike is, which I kept for two years and still regret to this day. My passenger was less of a fan, but this bike is above all designed to deliver waves of pleasure to its rider...
