presentation of the SX 125 2019
Some models aren't destined for a simple, quiet existence. Like this SX 125, which disappeared from the Aprilia catalog for a while and is back in 2018. Aimed at young Supermotard enthusiasts, the machine is light-heartedly inspired by the thundering SXV 450 / 550.
With its polished looks and Derbi DRD flavour, this bike isn't designed to impress, but to offer its rider sport. Around its steel frame, the bike boasts high suspension travels (240 - 220 mm) to cope with a variety of bumps and roughness. Aprilia has put the emphasis on technology, with ABS as standard and anti-lift function for the rear wheel. A first in this category. This kind of steering assistance is only found on very sporty, high-displacement machines.
You'll be able to brake very hard and take the corners like a pig, pushing the bike into a muscular ride to get the best out of it via its chassis. The powerplant will be more measured. This SX turns the page on 2-strokes for a design that is less harmful both in terms of emissions and power. The 125 cm3 4-stroke single-cylinder engine is as clean as it is modern, but will not be able to hope for more than the 15 horsepower allowed by legislation. Enough to have a laugh, but not enough to deliver the goods.
The SX and its off-road cousin, the RX, share the same engine and chassis structure. To be efficient on its playground, the SX features 17-inch spoked wheels, sport tires and a larger front brake disc (300 mm). Last but not least, both machines feature compact instrumentation with the usual functions, plus memory for maximum speed, battery voltage and two trip odometers.
