Guido is an Aprilia fan. And it made him sick to see the Streetfighter V4supplant the 1100 Tuono V4 in the excessiveness of the hyper-roadster category. But with this extreme Tuono, christened X, his heart has just happily gone into overdrive.

The Noale-based company has gone further than anyone else in the advent of the roadster. The Tuono V4 X is a pure product for the track, as exclusive as it is insane. Did you think that Ducati or MV-Agusta fireworks were already out of the ordinary? Aprilia gives them a double whammy even before the fight begins: 221 horsepower for 166 kilos. Even the hypersports are stunned.

Guido has often hoped to recapture the fury of the RSV4 1100, but with high handlebars. Aprilia outbids him with this naked version of the RSV4 X. The Factory Works department was in charge of this gestation. As a result, you can smell the toasted slider from any angle. The engine itself is a competition-injected bomb. Taken from the RSV4 1100 Factory, it gains even more horsepower in the Tuono V4 X, going from 217 to 221 units. Above all, it breathes much better. The air filter is a much more air-permeable Sprint element, which Aprilia uses in MotoGP. The Akrapovic exhaust system features titanium headers and a carbon silencer. That alone saves a lot of weight.

New power, more breath, adapted electronics. The engine maps have been revised accordingly, all delivering maximum power but each with its own prerogatives. Engine braking, traction control and anti-wheeling settings are calibrated for track use. The on-board display (color TFT screen) is also adapted, with lap time displayed by an integrated GPS sensor. The Up&Down shifter is standard.

For some time now , the influence of aerodynamics has led to the introduction of fins on high-caliber sports bikes. This Tuono does the same, with large winglets forming an integral part of the fork head. The mimicry with the RS-GP Grand Prix is striking. Not very graceful, but a great way to increase stability at high speeds and under braking.

The Tuono V4 X is dressed in the now classic and homeric Loris Reggiani replica color, which Aprilia applies to models with a particular identity. It's the same color you'll find on the RSV-R 1000 R Bol d'or replica or on the imminent RS 660. Beneath the paintwork, the entire bodywork is in carbon.
The lightened exhaust system and semi fairing are a large part of the weight reduction. To achieve its featherweight, just 9 kg heavier than a MotoGP, the racing department redesigned the fuel tank, simplified the electrical equipment, installed some fine machined aluminum parts (adjustable rear controls, brake and clutch levers, fuel filler cap, sump protectors) and changed the pair of shoes. Check out the wheels: beautiful Marchesini forged magnesium rims, as light as a water bottle, surrounded by Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks.

The brakes are the same as on the RSV4 X. Dreaded Brembo GP4-MS brakes, machined from solid, finished in Nickel, located just below the GP4-RRs. They bite into T-Drive discs once the 19x16 radial pump, also cut from solid, has been activated. Carbon scoops channel air directly over the pistons for improved cooling.

The RSV4 / Tuono V4 frame design may be a decade old, but it's still a benchmark, impossible to fault. The suspensions installed here are Öhlins Smart EC 2.0, with semi-active technology. This means they adapt automatically to the track's profile, or leave you free to set your own settings using your thumb and buttons. By the way, the original controls have been replaced by racing commodos.

The Tuono V4 1100 Factory, Aprilia's top production roadster, comes with 175 horsepower. The X sends out 46 more. With its featherweight, technical solutions and power, rider Lorenzo Savadori took it around Imola in 1'50" - 4.6 seconds off the World Superbike lap record..
