In 1992, Aprilia presented the replacement for the AF1 in the 125 class: the RS Extrema. A little 2-stroke bombshell capable of bringing the sportiness of the young to a boil.

A little over three decades later, the RS 660 takes up this name to crack a special series. It immediately stands out from the crowd with a chequered paint scheme that's both sporty and light.

As is the whole machine. A small series of parts shaves off a few kilos, bringing the dry weight down to 166 units - 3 less. The addition of a carbon front mudguard and engine cowling contributes to some of this weight saving.

But it's with the SC Project muffler (also in carbon) that the RS loses the most weight. The Italian exhaust system weighs in at 4.4 kg, two kilos less than the original. A small gain in torque and a few horsepower can be credited to its efficiency, in addition to a deeper sound. The standard 100 hp will express itself with even greater valour.
And the fact that it's mounted on the right-hand side of the rim - the standard one is under the engine - plus the presence of a seat cover, gives the bike a more racy look. Aprilia also supplies an aluminum support bracket to remove the passenger footpegs, shaving off a few extra grams for a selfish ride.

On the RS 660 Extrema, the electronics are complemented by software that reverses gear selection. A preferable solution on the track. That way, one screw to remove, one connecting rod to reposition, and basta.
This devil's got a lot of assistance: 5 riding modes, traction, wheeling and engine braking control, an Up&Down shifter, cruise control and cornering ABS.

The chassis is no slouch either, with a perimeter frame and aluminum banana swingarm, inverted fork, Brembo brakes and adjustable suspension.
All that's left to do is accept the budget extension, which is unavoidable if you want to enjoy yourself.
