presentation of the Onixa 600 1994
In 1994, the Onixa model was one of the last motorcycles designed by Barigo.
Curiously, it was built on the same base (engine and frame) as the trail and supermotard models. This certainly explains the Onixa's unusual aesthetics, with a very bulging fuel tank.
The lines are fluid and inspired, in keeping with the canons of the time while retaining a very strong identity.
According to the testers who had the privilege of testing the machine, the Rotax engine is powerful, lively and relatively flexible for its displacement. Thrust is vigorous, taking the tachometer needle rapidly into the red zone and propelling the rider at over 200 km/h.
The chassis is just as spirited as the engine. Designed with a relatively long wheelbase of 1420mm, the Onixa demonstrates imperial stability. On the other hand, you'll have to get used to the twisties, as the geometry makes the bike less lively when cornering.
The bike's 145kg weight is easily stopped by the fantastic Beringer 6-piston caliper gripping a 310mm-diameter disc, and the no less magnificent 40mm White Power inverted telescopic fork.
Only the riding position was open to criticism: the shape of the tank didn't allow the rider to step behind the bubble. While this wasn't a problem for everyday use, on the track it could be much more of a handicap.
The Onixa, whose design was not yet set in stone, was heralded as the future dominator of the Sound Of Single championships. Unfortunately, financial problems allowed Parick Barigault, the brand's founder, to assemble only 3 examples of his sports car before abandoning the project (a red one, the development machine with a 61 hp Rotax factory engine, a blue one prefiguring the series, and a black one assembled for shows and then stripped of its parts).
