presentation of the 251 TRK 2018

Time and comfort have accustomed us to increasingly imposing, powerful, technological trail bikes. Mastodons, tilting unequivocally towards Grand Tourism. Is salvation only to be found in 150 horsepower and self-reflecting suspension? Benelli seems to think not. In fact, the opposite is true. Its trail bike now goes down to 249 cm3, and is now called the TRK 251.

Unsurprisingly, its design is closely modelled on the 502 brother, itself modelled on the Ducati Multistrada. So much for originality. But the little adventurer has made a point of asserting its differences. It has its own steel trellis frame, a smaller, lighter frame, and a city car engine. It's a 25.8 hp single-cylinder engine with just over 2 mkg of torque. Not quite enough to tempt adventure, but the weight of 153 kilos remains tolerable.

Room for raids? OK, but those between the nearby countryside, the lake at the bottom of the mountain and the clutches of the buildings. The double-decker saddle seems to be just as pleasant and comfortable. As do the 17-inch wheels fitted with road tires.
When it comes to equipment, the Pesaro brand shows strength as well as simplicity. Of course, the eye is impressed by the 41 mm inverted fork. After that, you'll have to make do with components more in keeping with your division. A single 280 mm front brake disc with a 4-piston caliper. No handguards or center stand. But a good 17-liter fuel tank, ABS, Delphi fuel injection and protection that seems more than adequate.
Compared to the SUVs of the motorcycle world, this TRK 251 can boast agility, handling and ease of use closer to the original trail spirit. As well as a budget without comparison. Enough to get your foot in the stirrup.

Benelli 251 TRK 2018 - 1Benelli 251 TRK 2018 - 1

Focusing on an offensive in small and medium-sized cylinders, Benelli is strengthening its position from the bottom up to approach adventurers on a voyage of discovery. And he's not alone, as he joins a small clan made up of the Suzuki 250 V-Strom, BMW G 310 GS and Kawasaki Versys X-300; and not so far away the Mash 400 Adventure. Is the wind of a revelation blowing over the fairings of mini-trailers? Should we expect an apotheosis of the segment? In Asia, certainly. On the old continent..... less certain.

You say "Since the demise of the Varadero, it will be the only one to occupy the trail-road segment in its displacement bracket". Incorrect: what about the Cyclone RX1 Grand Raid? Rating : 3/5

The RX1 has no ABS, no liquid cooling (long distance), not even an oil cooler, and to top it all off, you have to find a motorcycle dealer to buy and maintain it Rating : 5/5
