presentation of the 50 RR Enduro 2024
The Beta 50 RR is one of the market's best-sellers, and one of the best-selling 50s with gearboxes. Born in the late '90s, the Italian RR quickly established a solid reputation for quality components and a single-cylinder engine originally from KTM, but heavily reworked by Beta. Over time, the RR opted for the widespread and reliable Minarelli AM6 engine. But like all 2-strokes, it was feared that the Euro5 standard would do it no favors - indeed, it hastened the demise of the Aprilia, Derbi and Gilera 50s.
But this single-stroke machine has managed to overcome this difficult hurdle. The necessary modifications included new fuel vapour recuperators and air filter housings. This water-cooled, 6-speed, 2-stroke small-block can now continue to take the RR on short rides, both on the road and (especially ;-) on the byways. The exhaust gives it an even more racing look, while the gearbox benefits from new forged selector forks since 2021, for a more precise clutch.
The bike's chassis has also been redesigned, with new geometry for improved handling, a longer swingarm for greater stability, and revised damping to better cope with the difficulties of the various types of road encountered. This bike for everyday use and enthusiastic weekends is equipped with a 37 mm-diameter fork, 21" and 18" spoked wheels, each with a brake disc (260 mm front / 220 mm rear), steel frame and swingarm, 6.5-liter fuel tank and polymer rear buckle.
Light and easy to ride, with its featherweight of 85 kilos, the Beta 50 RR nonetheless requires its rider to climb the saddle, perched at 920 mm. It's not just the suspension's long travel that pays off, but also its off-road capabilities. Don't blame her, many of her competitors are like that.
Other improvements since '21 include upgraded footrests, LED taillight and simplified locks: a single key for steering, tank and seat.
The RR enduro is accompanied by more upscale versions to satisfy more targeted desires. The Sport features aluminum parts and a larger fork. The Racing version adds improved suspension, variable-diameter handlebars, a more powerful engine with no balance shaft, and does away with the separate lubrication system found on racing bikes. It's a pity that none of the versions is fitted with an original shoe.
