presentation of the DB10 Bimotard 2013
since its creation, Bimota has always strived to offer exceptional machines, with a strong preference for the sporty. The small factory has only strayed from this segment three times: twice in the roadster segment, with the DB3 900 Mantra and the current DB6 Delirio, and today in the big supermotard segment, with this luxurious DB10 Bimotard.
the pun is particularly apt. And like all Bimotards, this DB10 arouses more than a little interest before you even get to know it. But this time, there's a hint of disappointment. Based on Ducati's Hypermotard concept, the Bimotard lacks originality and looks too much like its Bologna cousin. We would have appreciated a machine that would have been more eye-catching.
Once we've digested this bitterness, we're delighted by Bimota's choice of materials and technology. Anchored around the desmo 1100 cm3 twin-cylinder of the Monster and the HM Ducati, the frame remains the superb tubular trellis assembly linked to cast aluminum plates. The same goes for the swingarm, which is simply exceptional, almost indecent in its attention-grabbing nature.
The DB10's 98 horsepower are just begging to be put through their paces, especially as the machine weighs in at just 168 kg. Thanks to the minimal bodywork, OZ racing wheels and tempting selection of precious parts. Like the fork head made entirely of carbon, as well as the small side scoops, the front fender truncated at mid-stroke, the rear fender extending as a chain guard, and right down to the plate holder.
What would scare the road the most? The 50 mm diameter Marzocchi inverted fork or its absolutely superb bevelled tees? No matter, because as usual, the chassis peripherals are high-performance. A handsome Öhlins shock absorber, Brembo 4-piston radial brake calipers and large 320 mm wave discs - while the 1100 twin breathes thanks to in-house titanium exhaust mapping and line.
bimota's foray into a very special sector is surprising, to say the least. But the magic of this small manufacturer is to provoke interest and curiosity in this DB10 Bimotard, even if you've never been interested in the segment in which it ventures.
