presentation of the F 450 GS Concept 2025
A long time ago, BMW tried its hand at a muscular enduro with the G 450 X. The test was not very conclusive... So when the brand returns to this displacement with an off-road bike, it's with an entirely different spirit. The next F 450 GS will be a bridge between the G 310 GS and the F 800 GS. In other words, a GS specially calibrated for A2 license holders. The Concept shows an unprecedented machine, almost ready for production.
Newly designed twin-cylinder engine.
The BMW Concept F 450 GS delivers on the promise of cutting-edge technology. The in-line twin-cylinder engine was developed from scratch and, thanks to a special, never-before-used ignition timing, stands out for its character and ability to rev up. Rated A2, this engine delivers a full 35 kW (47.5 hp) and superior torque, even at low revs.
The engine's extremely compact dimensions, excellent displacement/power ratio and low weight are the result of innovative solutions and the use of lightweight materials such as magnesium.
A machine designed for both on- and off-road riding.
Chassis-wise, too, the BMW Concept F 450 GS sets new standards in this segment, thanks to cutting-edge technology. " We were able to start the development of this model with a clean slate. The aim was to achieve excellent off-road capability and, at the same time, agile, precise handling on the road. That's why the BMW Concept F 450 GS features a fully adjustable upside-down fork and load-sensing shock absorber, inspired by rally-raid and enduro technology. The targeted use of lightweight constructions and other cutting-edge solutions enables us to create a sensationally light motorcycle, close to the minimum weight requirement of 175 kg for the A2 class ," says Marc Weber, chief engineer of the BMW Concept F 450 GS.
Comprehensive safety and comfort features.
Inspired by its big sister, the BMW R 1300 GS, the BMW Concept F 450 GS also sets new standards in safety and equipment for a motorcycle in this class. Relevant features range from BMW Motorrad PRO ABS (depending on lean angle) to high-performance brakes (Brembo / Bybre) and freely configurable riding modes. BMW's on-board connectivity and 6.5" TFT display allow you to connect your bike, smartphone and other accessories.

A glimpse of the future.
The question that arises when looking at the BMW Concept F 450 GS is: What can we expect from a production version? Johann Simon, project manager for the BMW Concept F 450 GS, explains: " No compromises, that's for sure. Given the off-road orientation of the BMW Concept F 450 GS, we'll be building a bike as close as possible to this concept. We'll just adjust the seat height for better accessibility and handling. To replace the cross-spoke wheels (19-inch front, 17-inch rear), lightweight but very strong cast aluminum wheels of the same dimensions are also conceivable. "
BMW plans to present the production model derived from the BMW Concept F 450 GS in 2025.

If I were BMW, I'd be aiming for a displacement of between 500 and 600 cc for a similar weight, as this would give us the power to stand out from the competition and close the gap between the 310, which lacks punch (and is heavy for its displacement), and the 800, which is far too heavy (over 30 kg).
One day or other, BMW will have to come up with some real off-road machines worthy of tackling any terrain, but for the moment, it's a long shot! And it's a shame, because they obviously have the skills to do it, but their choices in terms of weight, displacement and engine type (flat twin) have set them apart from today's high-performance machines...
