presentation of the K 1600 GT 2019

Since 2018, the K 1600 GT, like all models in the Touring range, can benefit from the new BMW Motorrad Spezial program. This allows you to personalize your BM with top-of-the-range parts, premium materials, more refined colors and a higher level of quality. This 'in-house' customization has the advantage of retaining the manufacturer's warranty on all accessories. 2019 brings Hill Start Control Pro (HSC Pro) as standard.

born in 2011, BMW's flagship continues to evolve smoothly to offer greater comfort and dynamism. No major revolution for the K 1600 GT phase 2, whose road-holding qualities and the efficiency of its famous 6-cylinder engine are well established. Enthusiasts of the Teutonic hypercar will be treated to a slightly reworked design and a few welcome tweaks to make everyday life easier.

First good news: still powered by its ultra-compact 6-cylinder engine, the K 1600 GT passes Euro4 without any loss of power. By modifying the injection mapping and catalytic system, and adding an activated carbon filter, BMW has been able to retain the full scale of its interstellar vessel. The big German still develops 160 hp and 17.8 mkg of torque. Rest assured, there's still plenty of room for the driver, passenger, luggage and, if you're feeling greedy, 4.5 tons of gear! Indeed, the generosity of this engine, the last 6-cylinder in the segment, is enormous, right from the first graduations of the rev counter (70% of torque from 1500 rpm!). But generosity doesn't necessarily mean unbridled opulence. The architecture of the K1600GT's engine block offers a contratrio of smooth, velvety power, giving this frigate dynamic qualities above the rest. All this is accompanied by the 6-cylinder's unique vocals, which will command the respect of any biker you meet on your long journeys. In fact, the K 1600 GT's fuel tank now boasts 26.5 liters, compared to the previous 24.

so what's on the menu?

In terms of design, the roadster retains its overall lines and hawk-like stare. New fairing sides and larger aerodynamic deflectors enhance rider protection. Nothing obvious at first glance, but there are also a number of minor alterations here and there, such as a redesigned left-hand gearbox cover, redesigned storage compartments and revised muffler tips. The speedometer dials have been reworked and now feature the K 1600 GT signature.

In terms of comfort, the German luxury takes things a step further with the adoption of electronically-controlled ESA Dynamic suspension as standard. Still faithful to its tried-and-tested chassis (aluminum perimeter frame / Duolever front / Paralever single wishbone rear), the K 1600 GT is equipped with a semi-active damping system. This adjusts damping in real time according to various parameters, such as acceleration and deceleration, which are measured in real time. This enables the damping force on the front and rear units to be adjusted in a few thousandths of a second.
The system offers two setting modes: ROAD (for optimum comfort and traction on almost any road surface) and DYNAMIC (offering firmer overall damping). You can switch from one to the other, even while driving. Before the journey, you can also adjust the spring preload at the touch of a button. Already very well equipped in terms of comfort, this tourer promises further progress in this area.

In 2017, this new standard equipment joined the electronic assistance package previously offered by the K 1600 GT, which included 3 riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and BMW Motorrad's partially integral ABS.

braking remains in the hands of two 320 mm discs with fixed 4-piston calipers at the front, and a single 320 mm disc with a floating 2-piston caliper at the rear. The ABS module is partially coupled. The brake pedal controls all braking, front and rear.

Requested by many users, the K 1600 GT features a reverse gear - alas, an optional extra. A dedicated button on the left-hand switchgear allows you to activate reverse. Forward gear is then blocked, and you simply press the start button to move the bike backwards (propulsion via a flexible shaft). Suffice to say, this is no luxury on a machine that weighs 319 kg (without suitcases and with 90% of the tank full)! But don't worry, BMW's engineers have already demonstrated the effectiveness of their work on weight balance on its predecessor. With its low center of gravity, this XL weight is easy to forget once underway, guaranteeing outstanding agility for such a large machine.

Another new option is the shifter pro (inherited from the S 1000 RR), which allows you to upshift and downshift without having to use the clutch. In addition to enhanced dynamism, the left hand is sure to appreciate this rest on long journeys.

last but not least, the K 1600 GT can also be fitted with e-Call, an intelligent call system that's just what you need. Equipped in this way, the Bavarian touring car will automatically alert emergency services in the event of an accident, and provide them with your geographical coordinates. Housed on the right-hand side of the handlebars, the e-Call module comprises an SOS button protected by a cover, a microphone and a loudspeaker. An option we're very excited about, but which will unfortunately only be available on the German market at launch... BMW promises, however, that other countries will follow soon.

Standard equipment includes ABS Pro, DTC dynamic traction control, electrically adjustable bubble with memory function, xenon headlight, TFT display, tire pressure sensor, heated rider and passenger grips and seat, cruise control and trip computer. All this in a plush, luxurious ambience, with a level of finish that honors the German tradition.

Priced at an elitist level of over €22,000, the BMW K 1600 GT offers a wide range of accessories and options, some of which can be included in two packs: The Safety pack, including adaptive directional lighting, daytime running lights, RDC tire pressure control, hill-start assist; and the much more comprehensive Comfort pack (with shifter pro, reverse gear, intelligent emergency call, keyless start, etc.)....). Those who want more can opt for the K 1600 GTL, which, for an additional €2,250, raises the level of luxury and comfort while sacrificing some of the K 1600 GT's 'Sport GT' capabilities.

what's new in the BMW K 1600 GT :

Manufacturer recall in the following countries: France, Germany, Portugal.

Non-compliant sixth-gear sets have been fitted to gearboxes replaced during a previous workshop intervention. This can lead to excessive wear on the control intervals during prolonged driving at full load in sixth gear. In the event of a malfunction, the gears may not shift properly, or two gears may be shifted at the same time. The rear wheel could lock up and/or the gears could be damaged, increasing the risk of an accident.

French SIMON Model 2020
I own a 2020 K1600GT, bought second-hand last year with 14,000 kms on the odometer. Before that, I had 4 RT1200's. On first contact, the K1600GT is disconcertingly easy to ride; the bike is certainly heavy, but once the first gear is engaged, you don't feel it.
I didn't notice much difference in handling with the RT, except for the front axle, which is a little heavier, and when maneuvering at a standstill, where you have to be careful. Otherwise, the engine is fantastic, and the noise is great, especially when decelerating.
Fuel consumption is around 5.5 liters. Comfort is royal. Protection is very good, but not as good as on the RT.
The engine accelerates hard, and this is a sporty GT, not to be put in everyone's hands. The negative points I noticed: - The gearbox slams hard.
You have to shift at high revs for it to stop rattling, which is rather unpleasant.
- The cost of maintenance at BMW, as expensive as a car (I have a Bmw 320D, maintenance is cheaper). Here's my feedback after a year of use and 11,000 kms.
Super bike, great engine, it's a real pleasure to ride this bike. On the second-hand market, you can find very nice bikes at less than 15000kms for 18 to 20k€ in the Bmw network with a 2-year warranty.

Bonne expérience après changement
After 125,000 kilometers in 7 years (27 months of winter break and waiting for a clutch), or an average of 25,000 km per year on my second-hand 2007 K1200GT, I'm discovering another machine with this 2019 K1600GT. It's my 5th bike and my 3rd BMW, with over 300,000 kilometers ridden in total. I've just done the first 300 km on this plane, which can be ridden like a bike. The only drawback is less storage space in the boxes, the top case (if your head is too big, it's not easy to slip a helmet in), under the saddle (no room for the small tool kit), in the two small storage compartments in the fairing). The radio is a superfluous option in my eyes. It takes time to get used to managing the menus via the knob on the left-hand commodo. Clear and general improvement over my old horse. Happy trails to all! Rating : 5/5
Hauts-de-France
This is my first Bmw, after 35 years with Honda. This engine.... is a veritable cathedral. The only downside is the not very pleasant transmssion jerks (my 1100 Pan european did better). otherwise, it's really a very enjoyable machine at the slightest twist of the throttle... Rating : 5/5

K16 ... Vaisseau amiral de la route !
French Noel Model 2021
That's right ... after 3 K1600GT bikes ... I'll be back with the 4th (version 2021) in a week. After the Yam 600 and 1300, I switched to the K16 in 2012 with the 1st version. Then I followed it up with evolutions in 2015 and 2019. It's still an intense pleasure to ride my bike. I rack up the kms ... the Corsican with friends who can't believe their driving, exiting a bend, the kickstand touching the ground and sparking, it straightens out and enters the other bend, without flinching with its demonic acceleration. I'm still in 5th place, the guys are playing with their 4-cylinders. I wouldn't change and would keep the future K16s
Happy cornering to all.

La K16, ça n'a rien à voir...
French Rafale83 Model 2018
I have a 2018 K16, after many R1***RTs. I've never had such a smile on my face while loafing/driving/traveling/wetting/discovering on a motorcycle. The slightly inadequate protection can be corrected with a GTL or Wunderlich Marathon bubble, and hand protectors. Otherwise, this engine has nothing to do with the rest, nor with the demonic front end. The sound of the original exhaust is delicious, even at low revs, such as when the throttle is cut at 3000 rpm, which produces a low-pitched borborygma that would delight a depressive. I've never derived as much pleasure from a grinding wheel as I did from this one... Rating : 5/5

Hi everyone !!! That's it !!! After many years in hyper sport and some mishaps, I just ordered my k 1600 !!! I had made the attempt of a 1200 rt , while keeping next to a fighter plane, and quickly realized that I only took the rt ðŸ˜"!!!! And what pleasures!!! You can ride coul , but I assure you that well taken, it goes very well too. I had the opportunity to own several of these models. The first series had a real transmission problem that was alleviated on the second model. An exceptional motorcycle with a RATE that goes up in the towers easily...like its famous 6 cylinders... The 2018 model takes advantage of the errors of youth associated with improvements such as reverse gear, a much more comfortable suspension and a shifter pro, in addition to the protection of the biker following revised fairing among others... Hello, I have just sold my 2015 model which had a transmission noise and have just acquired a 2019 model with the shifter and reverse gear. I find that the reverse gear is not effective (I can't get up a small garage door step) and that the engine makes a knocking noise between 1500 and 2000 rpm, especially in 3rd gear. Do you have the same problem? Rating : 3/5

Hello everyone,
i bought a 2017 k1600 GT to replace a 2010 1200 GSA.
i do not regret this change even if I miss the front side of the GSA a little.
the K1600 is a monster of torque and stability, combined with the shifter pro which is a real treat.
ferrari-like sound and incredible handling.
the rider and passenger are perfectly protected by the fairing and electric bubble.
This is a bike I'd highly recommend for all types of rider, as its 160 hp are more than enough to titillate a few hyper-sports when the going gets a bit rough.
In short, an excellent bike for solo or duo riding.

K16GT 2013 up to 50000km
K16GT 2017 with 2500km

When you have 70% of the torque available at 1500rpm, it means that on 6th you're already at 50km/h and after that it's like a BVA. No vibration, nothing. It tows from 50km in 6th gear up to insane speeds. So what's interesting is that you can drive it like "I'm looking at the scenery" and then like "I'm having a steak dinner". Yes, these limits exist, but try to get off the 4-lane dual carriageway. Take the winding roads a little lost in nature and you'll appreciate this magnificent motorcycle.
