presentation of the S 1000 RR Isle of Man Edition 2021
what goes faster than 300 km/h in the villages?
S 1000 RR... one week a year, on a small island between Ireland and England. BMW's sports bike loves the Tourist Trophy circuit. Drivers have understood this well, adopting the Teutonic for the most part for this fearsome and eternal compèt' myth.
with its yellow eyes, chlorophyll skin, After-eight saddles and carbon locutions, the Munich missile is ready to flirt with the Manx barony. If the GS models have the '40 Years' edition to mark their nobility, the S 1000 RR takes advantage of this 'Isle of Man' edition to show off its bourgeois face on a more striking body.
for this even sportier model, it 's not the traditional Motorsport color but a dark mint green, more Scottish than British. There's no geographical allusion in this color - BM has simply adopted the 'Isle of man green' shade from the M3 Competition. The result is an atmosphere that blends its hypersport motorcycle, its muscle cars and the furious microcosm of the Isle of Man with its legendary TT.
let's start by enhancing the emotions of the 4-cylinder. With Guinness? Unfortunate, that's for the rider ;-) Let's use a complete Akrapovic titanium line, with the M logo. With this, the S 1000 RR changes tone. According to the Slovenian manufacturer's data, maximum power is up by just one horsepower, but that's not the most interesting or relevant point. With the original line removed, weight savings amount to 5.1 kilos. Also, with this release of breath, the engine seriously swells its power curve between 6,000 and 12,000 rpm, with a gain of up to 10.6 hp at 8,550 rpm. Torque is even more impressive, boosted in the mid-range by an extra 1/2 mkg - even a 1 mkg bonus at 8,450 rpm. Its maximum torque exceeds 12 mkg, much sooner than on the standard model.
The Michelin Powercup2 is going to have a very, very hard time coming out of corners.

The 'Dynamic', with semi-active DDC suspension, cruise control and heated grips;
the 'Sport', with M reinforced chain, M Laptrigger GPS lap timing system and USB port;
the 'Race', with lightened battery, forged wheels, Pro Pilot Modes, wheel travel adjustment and Mswingarm;
the 'Carbon' to take advantage of this material for mudguards, side covers for the fuel tank and under the rider's seat, the chain guide and internal fairing returns;
as well as the 'Billet' providing milled parts in anodized aluminum: clutch lever, front brake lever, lever guards, adjustable footrest plates and engine casing protectors.
There's almost a dose of humor on this performance-enhanced machine, with the presence of the passenger kit. This RR also features special black alcantara saddles trimmed in grey leather - another nod to the M3 and M4 cars.
why the yellow eyes? This is due to the presence of a transparent tinted film on the headlights, to recall the world of racing. Also tinted, but in black, is the low-angled bubble, which provokes more than it protects.
Weight-wise, the diet is marked. Between the lighter rims (around 2kg), the 1,288g Li-Ion battery (also 2kg lighter) and the exhaust system, the weight is down by more than 9kg.
Strangely and incomprehensibly, the BMW S 1000 RR Isle of Man Edition does not feature the island's logo anywhere, with its armoured triqueter. Yet this is a special series in honour of this small part of the world... especially of its speed event, in which many S 1000 RRs take part. And win! But to identify this allegiance, each model will have the name of the millstone inscribed on the top of the tank, along with its number in the (small) series.
so, a special, limited series. No more than 50 examples, all for France, at a price as steep as the engine. Just over 33 plates. Normal, given the number of options it comes with.
It's already available to order. For the impatient, who live not far from Nevers, the S 1000 RR Ile de Man will be on display on the weekend of June 19-20 at the Magny-Cours circuit, during the BMW Passion Tour.
