presentation of the 650 Gold Star 2025

BSA was one of the great British manufacturers to be wiped out by the arrival of Japanese motorcycles in the 70s. Grandiose, renowned, a must-have for its time, the brand fell into the family of memories. Until India took England's destiny into its own hands. Like Norton, which was bought (and bailed out) by the TVS group, BSA has been in the Mahindra fold since 2016.

BSA could only be reborn with solid capital; Mahindra needs to build a reputation in Europe. The Bombay-based company thus found a way to gain notoriety. A few years later, the 650 Gold Star was born! The first production model of the modern era, with English perfume on every surface.

In terms of design, it's enough to fool the neophyte. Designed in the British style and baked in the old-school way, the new BSA plays up the introduction like Triumph's Modern Classics. It's retro without being old-fashioned. Some of the details are highly appreciable, such as the dual-analog instrumentation where the hands turn upside down, with inverted lettering. The BSA emblem takes pride of place, as does that of the parent factory of yesteryear. The three guns are not insignificant: BSA Compagny was a major arms manufacturer.

The rims are naturally spoked. Particular stylistic attention has been paid to the fuel tank. There's no denying that a bridge has been built between the DBD34 and this revival. All that's missing is a right-hand selector. On the other hand, the integration of the radiator is sketchy, as is the incorporation of certain hoses and wires.

To enter the market of Bonneville-type motorcycles, the choice of a twin-cylinder seemed the most appropriate. Not so for BSA, which opts for a big single-cylinder - just like the Gold Star of yesteryear. Around its 652 cm3 energy space, the design has blended modernity and memory. On the left-hand side, this engine, with its large fins, harkens back to the days of air-cooled engines. A mischievous design, as the block is mostly water-cooled. It features twin ACT, 4 valves, fuel injection and a 5-speed gearbox. Its power is rated at 45 hp, coupled with some 55 Nm (5.7 mkg). It is therefore natively accessible to A2s.

BSA 650 Gold Star bSA didn't source this engine from an OEM, or dig up old blueprints that had fallen into the public domain. It was designed in-house, in collaboration with the Austrian University of Graz. All it needs now is to prove itself.
The same goes for the frame. It doesn't come from a dusty old factory stock. It's new but very classic in its construction: a double tubular steel cradle on which hangs a 41 mm fork, a simplistic swingarm and two lateral shock absorbers with 5 preload positions.

Machines from China and the surrounding region are often criticized for their choice of tires, which are of unknown brands and very foggy in their effectiveness. Not so with this Indo-British machine. It's fitted with Pirelli gumshoes: Phantom Sportscomp 100/90-18 at the front and 150/-17 at the rear. Braking is not complicated either, but a quality brand. Brembo supplies a 320 mm front disc with a double-piston caliper, and a 255 mm rear disc with a single piston. ABS is supplied by Continental.

the return of the Birmingham Small Arms begins with a bike with an ultra-rewarding name. The Gold Star of the '50s gave BSA its finest years (more info on Moto-Collection). With a little adaptation, it could be a fast tourer, an off-road machine or a highly efficient sports bike. In fact, it won 11 Tourist Trophy races between 1949 and 1956.
Decades later, the Goldie's resurrection has taken on a new lease of life. The Goldie of the 21st century arrives on the retro market, taking on the Royal-Enfield 650 Interceptor, Kawasaki W 800 or Mash 650 Six Hundred. Is it enough to stir the hearts of BSA fans? Certainly not like the old days..

as BSA is unable to develop a network quickly, the brand has teamed up with Peugeot for distribution in France.

French corsaire95 Model 2024
i'm looking for a new bike BUT I have several constraints: I want mono, a 600 hp noise (I've had 1 over 2 years and the 2nd over 28 years) and compatible with diabetes (being able to put my feet completely on the ground with a good margin of bent knees... I'm 1.82m).
So I went to try out a Gold Star 650:
The mirrors are too small - it stalls if you let yourself go under 1500 rpm (in fact it doesn't stall.. the engine simply shuts down) - it heats up (or let's say I feel the heat) more than a Ténéré in Spain at 42° - the engine noise is exactly what I want - the revs are identical to those of the Ténéré, so I'm on familiar ground, a bit like finding my mount again after 6 years' absence - its weight is easy to manage because the center of gravity is low - it's beautiful - I prefer the dawn silver version (on the other hand, if it's true that the chrome on the tank is a sticker, I might be angry) - I'm worried about its range (I had 550 km with a Ténéré) - the seat is great and just the right height - the engine brake is just perfect - unlike the RE 350 classic I tried, the FRONT brake is a real BRAKE and the rear is an excellent RETARDER (the RE's rear is just as powerful as the front.. stupid!i feel good on this bike, it allows me to regain the reflexes I acquired on the Ténéré, while feeling good on my feet when stopped. I hope that biker boots won't be compulsory, because with diabetes I'd have to sell :-(. Besides, if you have any information on whether boots will be compulsory, I'd be interested ;-). The offer seems tempting with its Vintage look. However, nobody talks about reliability or maintenance costs.
I'd like to have some opinions on these subjects from a manufacturer that doesn't have a very good reputation even in its own country.
The USB plug is a sign of modernity, but the autonomy resulting from the proposed fuel tank is for me prohibitive, totally incompatible with hiking or a simple stroll.

I've been riding a Royal Enfield for 1 year now and I've been pleasantly surprised by the overall pleasure of this motorcycle and by the roundness of its very homogeneous engine, which takes me back to my first motorcycle, a certain 500 XT...in short, I really love this motorcycle, which is unique on the market! Rating : 5/5

Not really unique on the market, because if we exclude the R.E due to its twin-cylinder design, the Mash 650 is its direct competitor, and it stands up to comparison. As for the price of the Mash "Six Hundred", which is €3,500 new in dealerships at the start of 2025....Ben there's no photo! ✌️ Rating : 4/5

French Gilthebike Model 2023
A pleasant motorcycle to ride, playful and efficient on the terrain for which it was designed, i.e. the secondary road network. After a short period of adaptation, you'll discover a powerful, torquey engine, very good roadholding thanks to high-performance tires, and braking that's more than adequate for its contained weight.
It's an aesthetic success if we overlook a few shortcomings in the finish (front and rear mudguards giving the illusion of chrome (in reality made of plastic) and the chrome tank sides (a sticker), as well as the BSA logos affixed to the engine and crankcases. All in all, an engaging motorcycle that can be used for everyday riding as well as weekend jaunts.
All that's missing is a range of accessories dedicated to this bike

When I was in high school in the late 60s, one of my classmates had a 500 BSA. It made my dreams come true. Today, I have a Triumph Speed Twin 900 that I also love. But this new 650 BSA is a real emotional elevator for me. Rating : 4/5

French Francis Model 2023
I bought this model in July and I'm very happy with it. The engine is very smooth for a single, and the gearbox is well spaced. The bike is comfortable. The engine, built under license from Rotax, seems robust. The only downside is that the fuel gauge is not at all accurate. I'm waiting for the accessories to arrive, so I can fit it with a small luggage rack and side panniers for a road trip. An original motorcycle that's a welcome change from the Royal Enfield brand. Let's hope that a solid BSA network develops across Europe. All in all, a great little old-school motorcycle for a cushy ride. Rating : 4/5

Like you, I appreciate the fact that this legendary brand, which motivated me to become an inveterate motorcyclist, is being brought back into production. In fact, a biker family down the street owned Triumphs and BSAs, including a magnificent Lightning, and the eldest was into cross-country with a Maico. So for me, the revival of this single-cylinder goldstar resonates, all the more so as I loved and still love this type of motorization. So I'd really appreciate a Peugeot test ride, why not :) Rating : 4/5

Hello, We're getting back in touch with the motorcycle of yesteryear, the incomparable single-cylinder sensation, the pleasure motorcycle, just to rediscover that thing that you can't explain in words, but that you experience on this type of motorcycle. It's more like the return of the B33; the GS was Bsa's top single-sport model. The next model will surely be a bi, and as for the Bsa legend, if you knew their twins from the '60s, unless you live in the Vatican, no miracle, they were misery bags. Well, good luck to them if they manage to create a network. Rating : 2/5

Almost beautiful:replace the oil-cooled water radiator like the old suzuk. This will increase the size of the fins and look more like a vintage goldstar.

"Hello to You
In a red dress, this BSA makes my mouth water! Nevertheless, I agree 100% with
comments of those who find: 1) the radiator incongruous! Otherwise
very ugly!. As well as the big black hoof at the front!. Awful!
The taillight is more in harmony with Vintage than this one would be welcome!
Thank you, please keep me informed about this BSA

French HELMET Model 2022
It was almost too good to be true, and as I read the specification sheet I was already getting excited: at last, a "Thumper" in a motorcycle production line based solely on 2, 3 and 4 cylinders, or even 6 cylinders for big budgets
Thumper means Cogneur, which is also the name given to the big monos by our friends in the perfidious Albion
From an aesthetic point of view, this bike looks well-balanced and pays homage to its ancestor, even if a 19-inch front wheel would be welcome
The engine is also very pretty, but that radiator is indecent. On a Berliet T100, it contributes to the Salaire de la Peur feeling, but on this bike it looks like a leek on the cheek of the third Larzac dauphine.
I imagine this same radiator is cast-iron, like those on my Aunt Solange, because on the scales, this "new age" BSA is starting to weigh a bit
This radiator needs to be hidden behind the engine, with scoops if necessary, but not on the front
The only thing I'll allow you to make bigger is the fuel tank.
Rating : 3/5
French Patakouign Model 2022
Finally, a big mono like I like!
Is this big, bulky radiator really necessary? It breaks the bike's lines and forces you to move the exhaust, which must heat up your right leg in summer.
Ridiculous range too, a shame, it's a beautiful bike.

French Passe à fond Model 2022
Bravo, this 1st new generation BSA appears to be an aesthetic success,
if the price is in the range of an Interceptor, then there should be some on the streets
As is often the case, they forget that a motorcycle, even a neo-retro one, can appeal to riders, so with a 12-liter tank, you don't have to attack the Cévennes or the Pyrenees, as the Gold Star of the time had 17 liters. The few RE owners I know often live in fear of running out of fuel with the 13.5 liters on board, i.e. 10% more than this Gold Star. Also, the rear mudguard would have benefited from being longer, as on the Bonneville. We're never satisfied.
