the Spanish brand knows how to express its passion in the GP 125 class. But while the category holds out the promise of glory and speed to many a young rider, it's well known that reason often takes precedence over dreams. With 19 world championship titles to its name, Derbi has a proud history in the category, and will be proud of this GPR 125. This new-generation model replaces the 2-stroke engine with the monopolistic 4-stroke.

an engine that combines a number of advantages: lower fuel consumption, much less pollution, and a less shrill sound for the neighbors. The other side of the coin is the 15 horsepower max. Not enough to make you forget the blood-letting and ardor of the holey cylinder. However, the competition has also adopted this type of engine. Everyone is now on an equal footing. It's enough to accelerate reasonably, have fun, and reach 120 km/h, or even 130 km/h with a little help and optimism.

with its taut design, aggressive fork head with central air intake, under-seat pot, LED taillight, slim white turn indicators and all-digital instrument panel, the GPR is a true sports bike, flattering and enticing. Its front end would even make Japanese bikes of the same class break out in a cold sweat. While the CBR 125 and YZF-R 125 make do with a conventional fork, the Spanish bike takes on the road with a 40 mm inverted model. This is virtually the same diameter as on the first-generation R1. The brakes are no slouch either. With a 300 mm disc clamped by a radial caliper, the rider will have no trouble stopping the momentum of the machine's 120 kilos (3 less than the 2-stroke GPR).

sporty to the core, it features an aluminum perimeter frame and an asymmetrical swingarm in the same metal. The rear shock absorber is anchored directly to the swingarm, without connecting rods; less progressiveness but a sportier feel for the road. This is a machine that promises to be as rigid as it should be. Special mention for the instrument panel, which can display: rpm by bar graph, speed, total and partial trip, clock, stopwatch, shiflight and max speed; all that's missing is a fuel gauge.
Racy, well-equipped and fun to ride, Derbi's GPR 125 makes a strong case for its place among 125 sportbikes.
