presentation of the Scrambler 800 Icon 2024
Ducati is fine-tuning its Scrambler 800 for the new Next-Gen model. More electronics, less weight for a bike that's not really built for the open road, but that's always had more of a dirt-track feel to it. It's a great way to ride over the rough edges of town, and to enjoy a few pleasant rides on the secondary network.
A chassis redesigned from top to bottom
For this second generation of the Scrambler 800, Ducati has taken care to revise many of the bike's technical fundamentals.
The Bologna-based brand has announced that the chassis is "entirely new", without specifying which modifications have been made to the trellis frame in order to lighten it. The frame has also been slightly stretched, with 4 mm more wheelbase. The swingarm is also new, and the shock absorber has moved to a central position. The previous version used a shock absorber offset to the left. Suspension is by KYB, with a 41 mm front fork (150 mm travel) and a preload-adjustable shock with the same travel. Seat height is 795 mm.
Braking is provided by a single 330 mm front disc clamped by a Brembo 4-piston radial-mount caliper. The rear disc is equally generous, with a diameter of 245 mm. All this is controlled by ABS, which is also active on the corner. The only legacy of a distant, not quite asphalted past, the front wheel is still 18 inches (rear 17 inches). The wheels are shod with Pirelli MT-60 RS tires, including a generous 180 mm rear (110 mm front).

The twin-cylinder Desmodue is still on board, with 803 cm3 and, above all, a little more horsepower. This 2023 version boasts 73 hp at 8250 rpm (compared with 67 hp on the first generation). Torque is 65.2 Nm at 7000 rpm. The Scrambler is also available in a 35 kW version for A2 license holders. While it gains horsepower, it also loses weight, dropping 2.5 kg on the scales. The new clutch has eight discs for a smoother feel. The clutch's footprint has been reduced in the area of its cover, offering more space for the rider's foot.
This year, the Ducati Scrambler receives a Ride by Wire throttle (electronic throttle). This evolution allows the adoption of Ducati Traction Control and two riding modes: road and rain. Depending on the mode adopted, the electronics also vary the traction control level. The arrival of Ride by Wire also makes it possible to adopt an up/down shifter, standard equipment on the Full Throttle and available as an accessory on the rest of the range.
All in all, these chassis and engine modifications lighten the Scrambler 800 by 4 kg.

What all three versions of the Scrambler have in common is the DRL: Daytime Running Light. The front headlamp, recognizable at first glance, is stamped with an X across it, delimiting 4 circular lighting sectors. The headlight is now entirely LED, as is the rest of the lighting. The steel tank has been redesigned and features an interchangeable tank top, as do the side plates and headlight details. Owners can change the color of their bike via the accessories catalog, without having to go to the body shop for repainting. The radiator scoops are in anodized aluminum. In front of the handlebars, the Scrambler 800 gets a new instrument panel with a 4.3-inch TFT color display. Its smartphone connectivity will delight the geekiest bikers, who can control the music and massages received.
The engine contributes to the styling with new clutch and alternator covers featuring the "X" logo, while the belt covers have been redesigned. The exhaust system has been redesigned with a new shape and new headers to give an unobstructed view of the engine.
Then, depending on the version chosen (Icon, Full Throttle or Nightshift), certain elements will vary from one version to the next, such as the seat layout, front mudguards, handlebar shape and side plates. The Nighshift version is the only one to feature superb spoked wheels.
Of course, the catalog also includes other accessories, such as Termignoni exhausts, saddles, seat covers, panniers and a host of machined details such as footrests, mirrors and tank caps. So everyone can build their own motorcycle, but at a slightly higher price.
