presentation of the 998 S Ben Bostrom Replica 2002
after honoring Troy Bayliss with a limited series in the colors of his machine, Ducati is now doing the same for its other talented rider: Ben Bostrom. Derived from a 998 S, the Bostrom Replica is decked out in the shimmering deco of the 155 World Superbike rider. It's impossible for the eye to avoid this red pistarde with its streaks of flame on the fairing. The retina will inevitably block out the blue stripe dotted with stars... but your connoisseur's senses will look much further for the charm of this 998.
of course, the raucous, cavernous sound of its 136 hp twin will make your right hand itch. The sparkle goes further: it's the Öhlins components that distinguish it from the usual 998 S (which makes do with Showa forks). A little wink: the bike is fitted with Dunlop D 207 RR tires, Bostrom's sponsor.
like the Bayliss, this replica is also equipped with features that will be of interest to many a tracker: braking system with P4-34 calipers (four 34-mm diameter, 4 pistons) and 4 brake pads per caliper, 15 mm master cylinder, new 4.5 mm thick discs, and adjustable column angle.
as part of this limited series, a strategic number indicates the number of units available. exactly 465 - or rather, 3 x 155, Ben Bostrom's racing number. 155 will be for the States, 155 for Europe, and 155 will be for other roads (or collections) around the globe.
anecdote: the models sold in North America were equipped with the standard 998 engine, developing 123 hp. To compensate, the bodywork was made of carbon fiber, as on the 996 R.
