presentation of the 1000 ds MULTISTRADA S 2006
ducati's enfant terrible, the result of a tumultuous liaison between a sports bike, a trail bike and a roadster, is now flirting with Öhlins. The Multistrada is now available in S and 620 versions. The S presented here differs from the standard version in that it features suspension components from the aforementioned prestigious brand. This will further enhance the already formidable potential of this strange machine. Bodywork and chassis will be in the same color, black or red being the only ones available. Like all Multistrada models, the S gains a new seat, new rear-view mirrors and an upgraded windscreen. For class, let's mention the carbon front mudguard or the Magura aluminum handlebars. it's going to be hard to resist...
the terrain in which the Multistrada will hunt is not that of a sports bike. So Öhlins quality is not measured by the last hundredth, but by the comfort of the damping. If there were a DDE "S" like this Multistrada "S", roads would be caressed by the hand rather than ransacked by the voice. In fact, this Italian with its noble suspension makes light work of road roughness. Close your eyes - you're riding on a clean, even, newly resurfaced tongue of asphalt... A real Tour de France road, when in fact the terrain beneath the tires is nothing to write home about. That's when you appreciate a good suspension: when it smoothes out the road. You almost forget Ducati's legendary firmness. But it does come back to haunt us over the big bumps.
These golden elements don't just take the pressure off the rider. They also optimize the Ducat's handling. The front end feels better and acts more precisely. A slight improvement that becomes a big one when the bike is ridden on rough roads. After that, it's up to you to set the bike up for comfort or sport. If you choose the latter, you'll be surprised to find that the S retains a decent level of comfort, even better than the normal Multistrada.
With this, there's nothing to stop you from using your Multistrada every day, even though it already lends itself to such use. While the twin-ignition engine has plenty of torque and is relatively smooth, it's best to avoid revving below 2,500 - 3,000 rpm.
the on-road capabilities of this sporty-trail hybrid have been broadened. Not averse to city touring, the machine nonetheless favors winding roads to express itself in the tradition of its parent company. It can now also take on the road with greater ease. An upgraded bubble and increased saddle comfort make you want to travel.
an extra €1,500 for a set of Öhlins, more comfort and precision, it's definitely worth it. On the other hand, the overall price is nothing to sneeze at - exactly that of a 749. Not the same pleasure, but the same boiling blood.
