presentation of the DIAVEL 1200 2013
the Diavel is certainly Ducati's most atypical machine. And it's also its best-seller in France. It seems that eccentricity is the key to success.
Ducati had to come up with something sick. Its own definition of the custom-dragster, with horsepower in every direction, Superbike electronics, powerful styling, and in the end, something monstrous: it's the Diavel.
look at that thing! It looks like all its musculature has been focused on itself. If the Harley Fat-Boy welcomed the Terminator into its saddle, the Diavel would gladly take on an Alien as a rider. With its big Evoluzione Testastretta 11° liquid twin born in the Ducati Corse workshops, this demonic machine is going to make its 240 mm rear tire smoke wildly. Normally, this type of engine is softened when it leaves its original setting (a sports bike) to power a less exclusive motorcycle. In this case, Ducat has just about calmed it down. The twin spits out 162 hp at 9,500 rpm, which is about the same as a 1098 from 5 years ago. What about the competition?
The V-rod Muscle? Pfff... The Diavel hasn't finished accelerating and the American is already a memory in the rearview mirror. Right from the start, the Diavel is out to make trouble for the Yamaha 1700 V-max, and has no qualms about taking on the Triumph 2300 Rocket III Roadster. Although less powerful than the Yam, the Italian weighs in at just 210 kg, or one quintal less. And weight is a bike's worst enemy. Not sure the Japanese will be smiling for long.
The chassis features everything Ducati knows best: a traditional tubular steel trellis frame attached to side plates, a 50 mm inverted fork on one side, a long swingarm on the other, and a generous 1,590 mm wheelbase in between. To channel the Diavel's fiery spirit, the whole Ducati Corse lives in the on-board microchips: Ducati Traction Control, ABS, 3 selectable mapping modes, Ride-By-Wire throttle... You name it.
get the breeze and fan ready, because it already smells of burnt rubber and a burnt wallet. Expect to pay 19,000 euros for the Devil's Breath (high inflation for 2013). There's also a carbon version, largely equipped with this material, 3 kilos lighter, and a handsome cheque for 20,990 euros.

However, I've just completed a roadtrip in Ireland with 2 suitcases and a full tank bag. We covered 4200 km, of which 2500 km in the left-hand lane (fortunately, everyone drives on the left in Ireland...) and most of it on winding coastal roads. Well, I've had a rough time of it! The bike proved to be bouncy and not very precise in corners. Of course, on my return my mechanic informed me that I'd have to change the steering bearings. Maybe that explains it... Can you share with me your experience on the same type of roadtrip on a DIAVEL? Thank you PS: I'm thinking of changing to a slightly more reasonable bike Rating : 4/5 Respond to Norbert
And highway with the perfect little protection (150 km/d). I've had er6n, street, speed and the diavel is my last little one that I won't change...
Beautiful, powerful all-rounder. I recommend
