presentation of the 888 1993

Ducati isn't known for its quality, at least not back then... In discussions between motorcyclists, we often heard: "Ducati! Pff toolbox! Admittedly, the 888 is no exception to the rule and isn't perfect, but it does have many qualities, starting with a linear, pushy engine that provides excellent sensations from 5,000 rpm. A linear engine is not something the crazy biker is particularly fond of; he's more into "kicking ass", if you'll pardon the expression. But this machine delivers good sensations without surprising you with its acceleration.

On the other hand, it's a machine that demands a lot from the rider, both on open roads and in town. With its ridiculously tight turning circle, this machine won't do you any favors in town. On small, winding roads or on the racetrack, this machine is a delight for the rider. I say rider, because it's not a machine to be put in the hands of just anyone. This machine is unforgiving of misbehavior, and demands constant attention from the rider. Trajectories have to be clean, and wiggles are mandatory to get it where you want it to go. In short, this is not an agile bike like a good roadster. This bike is a sportbike, and it shows!

With a very reclined position, the rider is totally leaning on the handlebars, which can be tiring in the long run. But as with all sport bikes, that's the price you have to pay for this type of machine. As far as the passenger is concerned, let's be clear right away: if he can get his butt into the folding seat that serves as a rear seat, if his legs aren't too big and if he can unfold them a little compared to other sports bikes, he'll have no way of holding on. Except for the driver, but I must admit that it's far from paradise once you've managed to ride this bike.

At least for its time, it was a truly sublime motorcycle, and remains one of the leading bikes in its class today. It has made many happy, and continues to do so for many Italian enthusiasts.
