presentation of the 1260 Multistrada S 2018

Generous in engine, electronics, chassis and escapades, the Multistrada has long since earned its stripes as an athletically capable maxi-trailer. Frankly GT for a Ducati, but still sporty for a trail bike. Good for it: its customers are looking for the emotion that the brand's DNA imparts with every piston stroke. These have become even more enjoyable with the 1260 evolution of the big Bolognese twin. A technical and invigorating update that is even more seductive with the S version of the big MTS. As usual, Ducat' has enriched the equipment, widened the choice of colors and installed multi-card suspension.

its name being a claim to enjoy all types of roads, the adoption of semi-active suspensions, the Skyhook Evo, meets both its desires and the dictates of high-end touring machines. Almost all of them are now equipped with this technology. Sachs supplies the components: a 48 mm inverted fork and a monoshock. These are connected to a series of sensors and an inertial unit to fine-tune damping according to road conditions, riding style and selected mode.
Thus suspended, the MTS 1260 S is more attentive to comfort and efficiency. But that's not the only added value you'll find on board. Compared to the standard version, its dashboard is more sophisticated: the LCD screen is replaced by a 5-inch TFT panel. The rich interface is simpler to use and offers a wide range of configurations. With its choice of suspension, riding aids, multimedia system, riding modes and all the rest, this bike is a spaceship.
Ducati 1260 Multistrada S 2018Another special feature is the cornering lights, perfectly concealed in the impressive array of LEDs lining the machine's aggressive look. The two-way shifter will satisfy your desire for sport and lightning shifts. Last but not least, braking is enhanced by 10 mm (330 mm) larger discs, bitten by highly efficient Brembo M50 calipers.

offering more isn't easy for the S, as the standard Multistrada already has a well-filled bag of tricks. Particularly when it comes to electronics: keyless ignition, cruise control, automatic blinker off, 4 riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro), hill-start assist, traction control, Power modes, anti-wheeling and cornering ABS.
The tubular trellis frame, lightened wheels, 20-liter fuel tank, seat adjustable to 825 or 845 mm, dimensions, design and protection are identical between the Multistrada 1260 and the S. The latter weighs 3 kilos more, which is not much for a machine weighing 235 kilos on the scales. Its temperament won't suffer much, especially since the 1200's powertrain has gained in cubic capacity and availability. Its twin-cylinder engine is even fuller, overflowing with mid-range torque. The combination of DVT variable valve timing and the XDiavel's cubic capacity is a perfect match. At 158 hp, the Multistrada is a hair more powerful than before, and probably just a tad more unreasonable. Then, proud of its 13.2 mkg, 85% of which is available from 3,500 rpm, the machine boasts serious throttle response to the slightest demand. And while you can load up the saddles and panniers, the MTS 1260 isn't afraid of running out of breath.

as this bike is the point of origin of the expedition, Ducat' has designed a series of packs to suit the profile of the area where it will take its wheels:

Ducati 1260 Multistrada S 2018- Touring Pack: heated grips, side panniers and center stand
- Sport Pack: homologated Ducati Performance exhaust system by Termignoni (Europe only), carbon-fibre front mudguards, fuel filler caps and brake fluid reservoir cover and CNC aluminum clutch.
- Urban Pack: top case, tank bag with lock and USB connection
- Enduro Pack: additional LED lighting and Ducati Performance by Touratech components: engine protection bars, radiator protection bars and grille, engine skid plate, wider kickstand base and off-road footrests

a few details on the riding modes:

- Sport mode offers 158 hp and 13 m/kg Nm torque, with sporty suspension. It also features low traction control (DTC) and anti-wheeling (DWC) intervention, and a Level 2 ABS setting. This combination of rear anti-dribble and cornering ABS is ideal for experienced drivers who want to test their limits.
- In Touring mode, the Multistrada delivers 158 hp in a smoother, less direct throttle response. Active safety is enhanced by higher DTC and DWC sensitivity levels to maintain stability. The ABS is set to intervention level 3, ideal for touring, allowing the rear wheel anti-dribble and ABS Cornering to be triggered, while optimizing the combined effect of front and rear braking. A suspension better suited to long distances is chosen, guaranteeing first-rate comfort for rider and passenger.
- In Urban mode, power is reduced to 100hp. The bike is tuned for optimum agility with the corresponding Skyhook (DSS) mapping. DTC and DWC are set to a high level for maximum safety on imperfect urban roads. ABS is set to level 3.
- Enduro mode allows engine power to be set to a maximum of 100 hp, with off-road orientation and DSS mapping. DTC and DWC are low, and ABS is set to level 1, suitable for off-road use on low-grip surfaces: rear-wheel anti-dribble detection is deactivated, cornering detection deactivated and rear-wheel ABS deactivated.
