Ducati has added a new member to its "Dark" family. This nocturnal, entry-level finish has fallen in love with the larger version of the Scrambler, the 1100 Pro.

The 800 was already familiar with it, as were so many other Ducatis before it. The approach is simple: go for matte black, sacrifice the colors, offer the essentials and keep the price down. In the case of the 1100, no less than 700 euros are saved.

The big Scramblers feature the old 1079 cm3 Desmo, which has managed to survive the ages. Standards castrate it, forcing it to give up much of its former ardor. We love it for its character, its two valves per cylinder, its purity and authenticity. The manufacturer has succeeded in validating it for Euro5, without any loss of strength.
With 86 hp, it's slightly more powerful than the 800. On the other hand, the larger displacement means more than 30% extra torque.

Beneath its more distinguished appearance, the Scrambler 1100 Dark retains the same technical and electronic configurations as its predecessor, the Pro. A tubular steel trellis frame anchors a Kayaba shock absorber with adjustable preload and rebound damping. At the front, the 45 mm inverted fork (nice diameter) is adjustable all around. 320 mm discs are gripped by Brembo M4.32 4-piston calipers. The rear is less demanding, with a 245 mm single-piston disc. All supervised by Cornering ABS.

Even if this machine makes a strong claim for neo-retro simplicity and a dedication to riding pleasure, it is also designed for software-infused safety. A 4-stage traction control system keeps watch. As for mood, it's a function of one of the 3 Driving Modes - Active, Journey or City. Under the seat, a USB socket feeds nomadic devices.
All 1100 Scramblers inform the rider via a comprehensive, cleverly designed dual LCD instrument panel.

Same content, same container, fewer colors, lower cost - the equation is simple. The Scrambler 1100 Pro Dark completes the family, while seeking to appeal to a slightly broader or more hesitant audience. Precisely, it's also available in an A2 version.
