F .B. Mondial brings back a name almost forgotten, except by seasoned Italian motorcycle enthusiasts. The Piega is back, in 125 cm3 format. It's a little surprise, and a sister to the HPS 125. The neo-retro that has been around for several years will now be backed up by a model with a modern, sharp edge.

The original Piegawas a sportbike in the Superbike class of the 2000s. It symbolized FB Mondial's rebirth as a thoroughbred machine. VTR-SP1 core, 140 grunt, Paioli and Öhlins suspensions, in-house tubular trellis frame, forged aluminum rims, dress more personal than sensual - enough to place it in the orbit of the 998 and F4 750, but the adventure was short-lived.

From now on, a Piega will be a roadster. With a single-cylinder engine boasting over 13 hp and a more aggressive design than the HPS. The shapes ricochet off a cut-throat tank, manga-esque cladding and an epic fork head, before concluding with a disturbing end. The rear frame is uncluttered to the max, perfectly uncluttered thanks to the placement of the road bonds on an arm attached to the rear wheel clamp. This support seems to require a great deal of tapping to free it..
As much as the HPS benefits from a delicately expressive pencil stroke with a transalpine sensibility, the newcomer to the range provokes counter-views of... a Chinese motorcycle. Which it partly is. A Sino-Italian production, which one manages to hide cleverly. The other has to deal with both fashion and its own desires.

The underside is very much borrowed from the 125 HPS. These include a tubular steel double-cradle frame, 40 mm inverted forks, shock absorbers, a single brake disc per wheel (note the "Mondial" signature on the calipers) and the original Piaggio engine. It features fuel injection, 4 valves, liquid cooling and some 10 kW at 9750 rpm.
The Piega stands out with its stick wheels and roadster dimensions: 17 inches front and rear, for 110/70 and 140/70 tires, its low-positioned exhaust, its larger front brake disc and its 2 kilos extra weight.

from the driver's seat, the rider benefits from a 5-inch TFT color display. All lighting is LED, ABS is standard, and the price is apparently lower than that of the HPS.
