presentation of the CVO 1800 SOFTAIL BREAKOUT FXSBSE 2013
"We start by stripping the bike down to its bare bones, then rebuild it. This sentence from Kirk Rasmussen, Harley's styling director, reveals just how much this new Breakout wants to leave a mark and give fever to enthusiasts of the genre. Very long, superbly equipped, sparkling and provocative, this softail is close to a work of art. In fact, having passed through the Custom Vehicle Operations workshops, the Breakout could only be swollen with pride to show itself in all its superb glory.
it exudes strength and style. It's got muscle, and it's not shy about showing it. Behind the Heavy Breather Performance air filter is the biggest H-D engine today, the 1803 cm3 Screamin'eagle twin. The 110B version, fitted with balance shafts, will power these 316 kilos of steel and character. All around it, chrome galore and a selection of beautiful parts. It's as if each model is unique, straight from the workshop. With its ultra-short mudguards, minimal instrumentation and crocodile-skin-style seat, the Breakout is as dry as an athlete.
The Turbine rims are formidable. The front wheel looks huge, thanks to the 21 very thin rim spokes. The rear is just as intimidating, with its monstrous 240 mm gumshoe. The wide front end features a mini-headlight pod and a chromed cast-aluminium oil tank.
the decoration and paintwork are a blend of meticulousness and patience. For example, on the Black Diamond and Molten Silver Graphics combination, the various parts of the tank and mudguards require 10 passes of hand sanding, starting with 150 grit and finishing with 3,000 grit, followed by a final three-stage polishing treatment. Color elements are then applied, followed by coats of "candy" clear coating.
a true hot-rod for the die-hard, the CVO Breakout proves to be as vindictive as the late Rocker C, albeit with more conformism than the latter. And like all CVOs, it's a hard-seller (literally and figuratively). a total of 1,900 units will be built, and the introductory price of 29,000 euros will scratch the bank. Standard equipment such as ABS, cruise control, keyless ignition and HD start-up system round out the package, but are mere trifles in the face of the Breakout's spectacular styling.
