presentation of the 1690 ROAD GLIDE ULTRA FLTRU 2016
Harley-Davidson's Touring range is vast. Bagger with the Street Glide, vintage in the Road King, classic on the Electra or majestic and quirky in the Road Glide. Its distinctive face filters through its audience, giving it an indescribable appeal. As well as protection and a steering feel unlike any Electra. But there's something missing to complete the journey: an extra large cargo hold, to complete the liner-like silhouette and enhance passenger comfort. This is the how and why of the Road Glide Ultra. But is it just another top-case?!
wait a minute... This Touring is already in the catalog! Yes, but in CVO form. In other words, a blend of luxury and exclusivity at a suffocatingly high price. A more affordable version would be all the more appropriate.
Harley has worked hard on this model, building on the Rushmore project. The fork head has been profiled to optimize aerodynamic flow. To put it simply, without getting too technical: a dose of comfortable air for the rider and another to cool the engine.
an engine unlike any other in Milwaukee's long line of twin-cylinder engines. It's one of those engines that provoke a holler from the conservatives. The Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103. Good heavens, is that a NASA engine? No, just a liquid-cooled (in the cylinder heads only), air-cooled version of the 1690 cm3. But Americans are fond of exuberant names. The important thing is that this engine is responsive and retains its character. And almost 11% more torque won't go amiss to power this 424-kilo vessel. The block can spit out a maximum of 14 mkg at 3,750 rpm.
what's in the Rushmore project already? Testimonials, opinions and ideas from thousands of Harley users, followed by concrete applications. A number of models are already benefiting, and now the 1690 Road Glide Ultra. These include Reflex brakes, a 49 mm foam fork, lightweight Impeller aluminum wheels, improved dashboard graphics and controls, and now cruise control. On the entertainment front, the Boom Box 6.5 GT system crushes the competition. A large 16.5 cm touchscreen controls audio, GPS, USB, MP3 - and sends it all to you either via Bluetooth, or through 100 w of power in 4 13.34 cm speakers.
comfort plays an important role on this bike. The rider benefits from a revised seat and higher handlebars than on the Road Glide Special. Far from being forgotten, the passenger benefits from a backrest, armrests and a seat that's 25 mm longer and wider than on the FLTRXS. The Tour-Pak offers 4% more capacity and opens and closes via a single OneTouch lock, as do the suitcases and fuel filler flap. The damping system is designed to keep you tool-free: the rear suspension units are adjustable via pneumatic assistance.
The machine is imposing, and requires a certain financial commitment. After all, as Harley says,"They cross two borders before lunch..."
