presentation of the 1870 ULTRA LIMITED FLHTK 2019

the Ultra Limited never tires of evolving, always offering more, bathing in a delicious motorcycling complacency. It's the frontier before CVO tourers, after the desire to travel the country, between the road and time. The Ultra Limited has no concept of half-measures in the definition of travel. And since Harley can't deny it anything, what better way to propel this vessel than with a huge engine? A new generation? With enough power to upset a few conventions? The Milwaukee Eight is up to the task. Without going into too much detail, let's just mention the major evolutions of this 9th-generation twin. The MoCo has given itself a block capable of offering much more effort, while passing the increasingly drastic standards of tomorrow and beyond. With 4 valves per cylinder, dual ignition, part-liquid cooling, a balance shaft that absorbs 75% of vibrations at idle, improved gas flow and far more displacement than the Twin Cam, the M8 changes the dimension of Harley engines. To find out more about the Milwaukee Eight engine, click here -> Power?
Power? In the upper echelons of Big Block history. In 2019, the mechanical organ increases from 107 to 114 ci. With the exception of the CVO range, you won't find a bigger, fatter, greedier twin. As for power, the maxi is unchanged, announced at 90 hp. But this value is achieved earlier in the rev range. It's the torque that benefits most, climbing from 15.5 to 16.7 mkg. And just above 3,000 rpm. A bear-like force perfectly befitting the majesty of this liner.

let's not forget what the Rushmore project offered in 2014, namely an abundance of improvements. Four years of listening to customers, gathering comments and ideas, giving feedback, and in the end, a discreet leap forward on all fronts. As delightful as ever, but with a different kind of performance. And what of it?
Let's start with the fairing. Harley also dares to modify its timeless "Batwing" fork head. 3000 tests later, a central air intake is cut under the windshield, to equalize air pressure and reduce turbulence around the rider's helmet. It opens and closes at the touch of a button. Then it's a cocktail of practicality and style that subtly modifies the Limited's peripherals. The Tour Pak trunk is more compact, yet offers 4% more capacity. The slimmer suitcases also provide more storage space. These pieces of luggage open with a single press. What's more, they can be locked with a One-Touch button, as can the fuel filler flap, Jukebox and gloveboxes.

Harley-Davidson 1870 ULTRA LIMITED FLHTK 2019 in the mid-2010s, Harley moved into a new dimension of entertainment with the BOOM Box. Now it's time to modernize the system with the GTS version. Featuring a faster processor and increased memory, the module now takes around ten seconds to start up, and promises to be much faster at calculating routes. A new screen doubles resolution, offers greater contrast and is more sensitive and efficient to hand gestures.
The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay, allowing iPhone content to be projected onto the 6.5-inch color TFT screen. Navigation has been simplified, making it easier to enjoy GPS, radio, audio content via smartphone, iPod, SD card or USB key, voice recognition, 25 watts per channel (4), Bluetooth, intercom, etc. via touchscreen or joystick.
Let's stay with life on board and find out how comfort takes care of the crew. For the rider, as we've seen, there's a fine, comprehensive instrument panel, heated grips and cruise control. It's on the passenger side that the gains are made. The seat is 2.5 cm longer and wider, the saddlebags lowered, the backrest redesigned in height, width, angle and shape for greater comfort, the speakers shifted and the armrests adjusted. With all this, it's impossible not to please the lady.

even more than before, this Touring should have been rebadged from Limited to Unlimited. Having optimized the engine, comfort and entertainment, Harley had also turned its attention to the chassis. Lighter, stiffer wheels, certainly. A 49 mm fork, yes. Fine-tuned damping, OK. And for braking, the Reflex system combined with ABS. In simple terms, front and rear brakes operate independently below 40 km/h. Above this speed, linked braking is activated. Above that, linked braking is activated and an electronic management system distributes braking between the front and rear. 2017 continues this trend with a more efficient Showa fork and emulsion dampers. Preload is adjusted by means of a thumbwheel. Not only more efficient, damping is also more consistent.
Lighting also evolved, with a Daymaker LED headlamp backed up by halogen fog lamps. In addition to offering greater luminosity, Daymaker technology adds a surprisingly modern touch. In all, these eyes distribute 2136 lumens to pierce the dark. Do these figures mean nothing to you? Neither do I.

In its 1690 "phase 2" version, the Limited also adopted controls with remote functions on the handlebars, a new front mudguard, new medallions, more visible instrumentation and a new electrical harness for battery charging.
While retaining a maximum of the style that makes the Electra so proud, this hymn to the open road once again offers much more, for a slight increase in price. An increase that's all but transparent, given the amount of money required for the right to cruise on such a machine. Sitting on a striking Milwaukee Eight 114 Ultra Limited, there's no excuse not to enjoy yourself over thousands of kilometers.

French Potiron50 Model 2022
I bought this bike new in 09/2022, and have since covered 22,000 kms. Comfort is top-notch, both solo and in duo. We crossed the Alps and the Pyrenees, and frankly, once you get used to its imposing size, this bike handles very well. The equipment is plethoric and nothing is missing, I just added Apple Carplay for more connectivity. I didn't want to install the reverse gear on mine because it's taken from the gearbox and the clutch seems a bit risky (unlike the BMW where it's on the starter). Once on the road, it's the comfort that you appreciate the most, lulled by the fabulous sound of the 114Ci. The chassis soon shows its limits (as does the braking system, by the way), a far cry from Germanic rigor, but after all, when you buy this kind of bike, it's not for cruising, but for cruising.
Travel-wise, it's almost faultless: the suitcases are sufficient for two, and it's even possible to add a bag to the Tour pack gallery. I say almost faultless because this bike has two major flaws: 1) The bubble is not adjustable (neither manually nor electrically) 2) The rider seat leaks. Already replaced under warranty, the new saddle is no more waterproof. Incredible and inexcusable for a Touring model of this price. Even our old mopeds had waterproof saddles. To rectify this problem, I had to have the saddle reworked by a saddler to waterproof this two-seater sofa.

I've just traded in my BMW R 1250 RT and we've just covered 5800 km across Spain in three weeks with this Harley. As a rider, I'm delighted to share my experience: we covered a maximum of 500 km on each stage, with breaks of one to three days depending on the place we were visiting. In terms of comfort, this bike is exceptional, much more so than the RT. The seat is soft and ergonomic, allowing you to ride for hours without feeling tired. The suspension absorbs road irregularities perfectly, offering a smooth, pleasant ride. I didn't adjust the shock absorbers at all. They're very supple with two people and a load, but when solo, they could do with a little softening up, in my opinion. The Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine is modest in horsepower terms, but sufficient (for the record: 114 X 16.39 = 1668 cm³). Torque, on the other hand, is formidable. Acceleration is straightforward, and the bike responds instantly to every touch of the throttle. Whether on freeways or winding roads, the Ultra Limited performs brilliantly. In tight bends, it shifts into second gear almost at idle, and with a little play with the clutch and torque, it's a real treat. Travelling as a duo is a real pleasure. The passenger seat is just as comfortable as the rider's, and the well-positioned footrests add to the overall comfort. My wife enjoyed every moment of the trip, and even fell asleep a few times! The side cases and top case offer generous storage space. The top case easily holds two full-face helmets and even a summer leather jacket. I was able to take everything I needed for a three-week trip with no problem. What's more, the locking system is secure and easy to use. We bought the inner cases and a top case for the top case, a must! The Ultra Limited is equipped with many modern technologies, such as the Boom! Box GTS infotainment system, cruise control and heated grips. These features add a level of comfort and convenience that makes every ride even more enjoyable. The GPS works very well, even without a headset, and it's easy to get around. For the record, I don't regret the BMW GPS and its TFT screen - not the best! In short, the Harley Davidson Ultra Limited 2023 is an exceptional motorcycle for long trips. It combines comfort, power and practicality, making every kilometer a real pleasure. It does have one flaw, however, and that's its weight. Between the two saddles, there's a space in which I put a strap to help me lift it up just in case. I laid the bike down twice at first, just to get used to it. There's a technique for raising it in good conditions! No scratches on the machine and no injuries for us. I added a reverse gear, which is essential (be careful with it, because being in neutral, you can't forget the kickstand!) I had a little problem with the kickstand contactor (magnetic, ILS type). I had to install a 4 mm thick washer to lift it, as the kickstand had taken some play! The fact that there's no fairing not only allows you to see the beauty of the Harley engine, but also makes maintenance extremely easy. We had to change the rear tire before we set off, as it was flat and I didn't feel confident riding it for so many miles. I did it myself, and it was very easy. If you want to know the error codes for this bike, here's a useful link to print out and keep with this wonderful bike: Error codes on Harley Davidson control screen (https://voyageurphotographe.fr/Codes_erreurs_sur_ecran_de_controle_Harley_Davidson.pdf). Honestly, riding this bike in all weathers is a real pleasure. I've just added a reverse gear that lets you get out of tricky situations without forcing you. Rating : 5/5
