presentation of the Bronx 975 2020
Is it a new model, or is it more than that for Harley-Davidson? Stocky, almost aggressive, muscular and taut, the Bronx looks like a roadster ready to box. A machine far from the beaten track of the American brand, worthy of competing with streetfighters.
Harley needs to reinvent itself. The brand's storied image is no longer sufficient in the face of growing customer demand and targeted attacks from the competition. This means exploring new segments (electric with the LiveWire, trail bikes with the Pan America) and a detour to the Bronx Fight Club.
A far, far cry from the brand's canons. It's impossible to put it anywhere near a Sportster CX, FXDR, V-Rod or Low Rider S. The impression of virility emanating from this machine is in no way comparable to the usual Milwaukee productions. And yet, the Harley DNA is there, just seriously modified in the genes.
The V-Twin is inescapable... with a new approach. The Revolution Max engine is installed here in its 975 cm3 version. Open at 60°, with liquid cooling, this block boasts over 115 hp and torque of around 9.6 mkg. The belt drive is still in place, while the swingarm (finally) looks more like a European element than a Kansas foundry piece.
Michelin Scorcher Sport tires, an inverted fork and radial Brembo 4-piston brake calipers complete the picture.

Especially as the electronics section is promising: well-charged commodos augur modern electronic assistances (Traction control? Driving modes? Cruise control?). And Harley doesn't forget the nostalgic side of things, with a well rounded, ultra-simple-looking dashboard... where a TFT screen full of color, info and attractive graphics certainly nestles.

Why name it Bronx? New York's Bronx district has a notorious reputation for poverty and high crime rates. But it's also the birthplace of hip-hop, an increasingly dynamic borough, home to the Ninja Turtles and no less famous than Yankee Stadium. In short, the Bronx smells hot and it's a lot cooler than the imagination clings to.

Initially scheduled for 2021, the Bronx's release is being pushed back to leave the way clear for the Pan America trail. But Harley's strategy is subject to a difficult economic situation. The birth of this roadster looks complicated, if not worse...

M.B - Manufacturer photos
