presentation of the CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP 2025
Over the generations, the Fireblade has never ceased to evolve and, at the same time, to be pushed around by the competition. It may be the most powerful hypersport on the market (217 hp), but the Ducati Panigale doesn't give it time to breathe, and the BMW S 1000 RR doesn't hesitate to provoke it. But Honda continues to develop its CBR 1000 RR-R. A reworked version appeared in 2024, accompanied by the more lavish SP edition.
How many years has an SP been in Honda's catalog? A decade! Nothing less, and since then, each chapter of the CBR 1000 has been accompanied by a premium version. The original recipe hasn't changed: better suspension and brakes. Honda had hit the nail on the head right from the start, and is now renewing the cocktail.
Of course, the equipment has evolved over the past 10 years. Today, the CBR 1000 SP is guided by a 43 mm NPX inverted fork (still Öhlins). It and its TTX36 rear shock absorber counterpart are controlled by the new 3rd-generation electronic management system. The fork is held by special forged aluminum tees.
The OBTi interface lets you store 3 user modes in addition to the preset ones. In this evolution of Öhlins pilot-controlled damping, settings are more precise and the instrumentation can guide the rider in adjusting preload according to weight.
Honda has also gone back to Brembo for braking, but this time with a higher profile. The previous version of the CBR 1000 RR-R SP calmed down with Stylema calipers. The new version gets Stylema R calipers, which are even more efficient, especially when it comes to cooling. The difference with the Nissin jaws of the standard model is all the more obvious. To complete the picture, the master cylinder is also Brembo.
When it comes to decoration, Honda hasn't made much of an effort. The difference in dress between the std and the SP is merely symbolic. The white front to simulate a number plate and basta. The beautiful golden color of the rims has disappeared between two vintages. Damn.
For enthusiasts of the sector as for many others, the Fireblade is a beautiful motorcycle, with a bestial side lurking in the seriousness typical of Honda.

Honda has also worked on the chassis to reduce rigidity and thus soften riding sensations. A reconfigured frame saves 960g on weight and 140g on engine mounting bolts. The rider's position changes slightly, with bracelets higher and closer together, while the footrests drop slightly. Is the CBR 1000 less demanding?
Does a CBR still have a place on the road? So accomplished, so track-oriented, so dedicated to performance, with little thought for off-road excursions... There's no need to ask the question, as this SP version shows just how far the Fireblade generations have come. Never before has it been so unreasonable to buy such a sporty machine, let alone ride one. But Honda has a duty to show its expertise in a class it has long dominated, where the manufacturer has shown new ways, and where sport, speed, trajectory and fantasy continue to fuel passion - and sometimes dreams beyond victory.
