presentation of the CRF 250 L 2017

After a short absence of a year, the Honda CRF 250 L is back. Time to reflect on its situation, requalify, adapt to standards, and 2017 marks the time to return to the catalog with a few tweaks.

the CRF 250 L plays an all-too-forgotten role among modern trail bikes. At last, a fun, lightweight machine, ready to go anywhere and ideal for weekend outings on the trails. A far cry from the crossovers that present themselves with majesty but start to freak out at the slightest curb. The CRF can't hold a candle to motorization, long distance and ego.... On the other hand, once you're out on the trails, you're going to want to follow an equally light, easy ride, with suspension that swallows up any section of the forest. The CRF 250 L is a morning jogger under streetlights and fir trees alike.

how does the comeback look? Apart from the new look, the Honda's plastics remain unchanged. The mechanical and technical aspects are the same, with a few changes. The engine? A single-cylinder engine with super-square dimensions (76 x 55 mm). It is fed by 38 mm fuel injection, has two ACT, liquid cooling and a 6-speed gearbox. Power output is in line with class standards, with a renewed punch. From 23, it climbs to 25 hp at 8,500 rpm. Torque is also boosted at low revs, then develops a maximum of 2.4 mkg at 6,750 rpm. This is still a long way from the violence of pure cross-country machines, but sufficient for playful use. And it avoids the need for an overhaul every 50 hours of use.
To achieve this power bonus despite the Euro4 adaptation, Honda has given it a 2 mm larger intake manifold, a lighter catalytic converter and a larger diameter exhaust manifold.

a new instrument cluster provides information on speed, rpm, fuel remaining and a clock. To support the CRF 250 L, Honda has retained the classic, efficient single-cradle, split-steel frame. It benefits from a 43 mm Showa inverted fork and a Pro-link monoshock. Now, a few figures will give you an idea of these all-round abilities. Suspension travel is generous, 240 mm at the front and 250 mm at the rear. Ground clearance is 255 mm, slightly higher than that of a 1000 Africa Twin. To judge, consider that the in-house crossover, the VFR 800 X Crossrunner, tops out at 165 mm. The 21" front wheel is fitted with a 256 mm brake disc, while the 18" rear wheel has a 220 mm disc. Weight has increased by just 2 kilos, with the addition of ABS. For greater rigidity, the front wheel axle has been increased by 2 mm (17 mm).

honda presented this trail bike as a distant descendant of the XL 250 S. Fortunately, the CRF has much more cachet. And if you're in the mood for a little extra adventure, a Rally version is on the horizon.

Un vrai trail
French Rene Model 2012
A tall little bike reminiscent of the small 50cm3 trails so popular with young people. Here, the 250 4-stroke engine is a little rough, with some vibrations felt, unlike the 125, which is smoother but less torquey. The first gears are short, and a minimum rpm counter is lacking, if not a gear indicator. You can still appreciate the high moped feel of the bike, with its tight turning circle and the courage to make good speed in the final gears, which is astonishing. I've been able to soften the rear suspension, which makes me more comfortable vs. the firm seat, and gives the bike greater stability, even when cornering. A versatile trail bike that replaces the 300 scooter to better overcome city obstacles and go off-road, I'll have to see about fitting it with a modest-sized top case or simply a small luggage rack. I highly recommend it! Rating : 5/5

JE VIENS D'EN ACHETER UNE....
French Model 2017
SURPRISING, EVEN BLUFFING EFFICIENCY IN TT SOFT.
IT REMINDS ME STRANGELY OF THE 350 DR SUZUKI, ALL THE POWER GOES TO THE GROUND AND ON A VERY BUMPY TRACK, THANKS TO GOOD SUSPENSION, YOU GET A HELL OF A RIDE. AND WHAT'S MORE, IT DOESN'T TIRE ITS MAN.
ONE LESS TOOTH ON THE GEARBOX OUTPUT SHOULD MAKE IT EVEN MORE EFFICIENT

In reply to WITHEGOLD, I can confirm that, with 1 tooth less on the PSB on my 2015 model, it pulls much better and, after putting it on the dyno for testing, with the tooth less we have max torque at 5500 instead of 7000 rpm Rating : 5/5
French motozolive Model 2015
a nice little trail bike. easy to handle, economical and fun on the trails. it's a small engine but shows good will. in town it's a bike.
enduro look and unbeatable value for money.

Since 2014 I ride a Honda crf250l (2500km) bike bought new just a problem with the seals spit de fouche ... Leak replaced by skf seals no more problems. I love riding it more for pleasure than to go to work. Sincerely a super fun trail. I recommend it! Bonne route à touts et tous restés prudent .chris Rating : 5/5
14 000Km
French Québec - Shaw Model 2013
I've never felt any sign of fatigue and my rides in the woods average between 1500 and 3000 km

I'm talking about long rides in the woods

Otherwise, in town, I find it impeccable. I changed the wheels for a more BMW road style

The added glass is a great idea, by the way

CRF 250 L PREPARATION POUR LOISIR
French TERRYCR55 Model 2013
GOOD CHASSIS BUT NEEDS A LITTLE PREPARATION ENGINE AND SUSPENSION, MORE OR LESS 2500 TO 3000 EURO AND THEN IT CAN FACE THE CROSS-COUNTRY TERRAIN AS THE ASPHALT AND HAVE FUN WHILE REMAINING IN THE RESONABLE. BECAUSE EVEN PREPARED IT IS NOT A CRF 250 R (CROSS).BIEN A VOUS, TERRY Rating : 3/5
French greg Model 2012
i can confirm that it's a very good bike, but the clutch is just inadequate
personally, it did no more than 160 km before showing signs of fatigue and was out of order after less than 220km!
i'd like to point out that I haven't ridden enduro, just short trail rides

XR for ever have you found a solution for the clutch?

if so, what?

i can't see myself putting the original honda back in and doing barely 200 km with it!

thanks in advance greg

for my part exellent motorcycle UTILITAIRE and exellente in the dirt roads (300 km to date). when a luggage rack to fix a top case? and protections hands Rating : 5/5
French gone54 Model 2012
nice bike for the price, but I can confirm that it is not at all suitable for enduro riding, even if it is soft: the clutch is burnt out after 150 km and is not guaranteed by honda; I am currently looking for a 13 or 12 tooth gearbox output sprocket. who has any information ???? thank you Rating : 3/5
French XR for ever Model 2012
nice bike for the price

but under no circumstances should you leave
on rolling, mostly level trails

clutch burnt out in less than 200 km

gear ratio completely unsuitable
for off-road use, even leisure use
a minimum of 13x 48 is required for soft
soft TT riding

But to modify, you need to know that there are no parts available from Honda
another good thing is that there are dealers
to make up for design errors

You'll need a real sturdy shoe
because there's no ground clearance and it's banging all over the Champ

otherwise pleasant engine and chassis
despite the enormous weight

so to ride a TT you'll need
at the very least an extra 1000 euros

Yes, the 45th, I've had it all, sportbikes, customs, maxi scouts, trails, but this is the best of everything.
Versatility, freedom, enormous possibilities on the road as well as off. I'm descended from a 1340 haya and I don't get bored on this bike. Bravo HONDA
As always, there's only one flaw, the pot, and I think it retains all the power, so if anyone has any info, I'd love to hear it!

I believe so much in this product that I just bought it, it has 120kms: too new to give a real opinion, no more powerful than the klx250s I already own... but the seat height is great for my 1m69!!! for now I can say super versatile... See you later for more info :) Rating : 5/5
French rocambole Model 2012
yes yes bravo!! Having always regretted not buying a Yamaha 250 TT in my day, maybe the 250 CRF L IS THE SOLUTION ... IF IT HAS MORE PUNCH THAN THE kAWA 250 klx ... ??? Rating : 5/5
