presentation of the CBR 1000 RR-R édition SPA 100 2021
In 2021, the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit turned 100 years old. A period filled with countless races, forged on one of the most beloved tracks in the world. The motorcycle was the first machine to open the ball, with an event held in August 1921.
dG Sport, the Belgian competition team and organizer, is marking this centenary with a double impact. First: a book to retrace a century of bike stories on the "Ardennes toboggan". Second: a limited series of CBR 1000 RR-Rs called Spa 100, available in 10 models only for track use.
Track-only pistardes are all the rage. Blades such as RSV4-X or GYTR are extremely sharp tools to satisfy high-caliber riders. But these are wheels direct from the manufacturers. The CBR 1000 Spa 100 is a private creation, but nevertheless joins the clan with its own measure.
In the gestation workshop, it is dressed in a poly fairing kit painted in HRC colors - the decoration is almost identical to that of the production millstone. No more headlights, mirrors or anything else that's useless on the track. Mario Kupper is in charge of preparation.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, you should know that he used to work at Viltaïs Expériences, has built up a solid reputation as a Yamaha specialist, works with Franck Nourry of Thorn-Bikes...., and has now put this CBR through its paces, turning it into a weapon.
Suspension efficiency is taken up a notch with the introduction of Öhlins cartridges in the 43 mm upside-down forks. The rear is equipped with a TTX shock absorber, also from Öhlins. Steering is also overseen by a Swedish component.
Next, the brakes. It starts with the removal of the ABS, then the replacement of the hoses with racing lines, and finally the installation of a Brembo Corsacorta master cylinder.

Mario can now turn his attention to the most important elements of a strong attack. By fitting Dunlop KR slick tires; by dipping into the Spyder catalog to find handlebar straps, a set of adjustable rear controls, a brake lever guard, a keyless fuel filler cap and swingarm spacerswe also added a Honda shifter, a Gess saddle, an Endurance-type bubble and, as a paddock companion, a workshop stand.
A small plaque on the fork crown attests to the bike's authenticity. Its christening, too, will be special. The engine will first be run in on the test bench, then Mario will be back for a day of track testing to fine-tune it.
Given the improvements, this CBR must have lost a few kilos on the scales, forgetting the original 201. The opposite is true for the price, announced at 29,000 euros before tax. Expect to pay 21% more in Belgium. So yes, it hurts. But that's the lot of every machine in this highly selective category.

After owning 5 models from the previous series, this CBR would fit perfectly in my garage. Although I've moved on to the competition, because nothing attracted me to Honda any more, I take my hat off to them and I'll be a customer again (rather second-hand, given current prices...)
As for the road, with its original 217 hp, who can boast of exploiting this potential in today's traffic conditions?
