presentation of the FE 450 2016
Piloted by Pela Renet, the FE 450 won the Enduro World Championship in 2014. The rear link suspension, WP 4CS fork, chromoly steel frame and polyamide rear frame section house the phenomenal power and torque of the FE 450's fuel-injected, single overhead camshaft engine. Best-in-class fuel capacity, astonishing reliability and a 135-hour service interval, worry-free riding - thanks to the extended warranty - on winding trails or in wide-open spaces, and power immediately available with a simple twist of the throttle.
engine
the small volume occupied by the FE 450's 449.3 cm3 SOHC engine greatly benefits the overall architecture of the engine/chassis assembly. Maximum power delivery, both high and linear, is easily achieved. The single overhead camshaft drives two lightweight titanium intake valves (38 mm and 32 g) and two steel exhaust valves (33 mm and 42 g). Lightweight, DLC-coated rocker arms maximize engine performance. Durability is guaranteed by a three-layer cylinder head gasket.
piston
the König bridge-box piston is closely linked to the FC 450 piston, reducing oil consumption and optimizing performance. Compression ratio is 11.8:1.
engine management system (EMS)
keihin electronic fuel injection equipped with a 42 mm throttle body enables precise reacceleration and smooth engine operation, perfect for enduro riding. The standard handlebar-mounted map switch allows the rider to adapt to all terrain and conditions. Engine data can be downloaded to a laptop via a Configuration Tool available in the Husqvarna accessories program.
redesigned DDS clutch
the DDS (damped diaphragm steel) clutch system is fitted to the FE 450 for smooth clutch engagement and easy control. A single-diaphragm steel pressure plate is used instead of coil springs. It is integrated into a damping system for improved driveability and longer durability. The clutch housing is a one-piece CNC-machined steel component, allowing the use of thin steel liners and contributing to the engine's compact dimensions. For the AM 16 range, the FE 450 and FE 501 clutch housings are 80 g lighter and feature an optimized pressure plate for improved modulation and durability.
chromoly steel frame
high-grade, high-strength steel is laser-cut and robot-welded to to rigorous standards by WP Performance Systems, in precise compliance with the torsional rigidity, longitudinal flexibility and weight defined by our R&D department. Precisely defined torsional rigidity enables great maneuverability and promotes stability, while longitudinal flexibility facilitates the absorption of terrain impacts and, in combination with the suspension, gives greater comfort and a better feel. The lightweight design allows riders to choose faster routes with confidence and maintain a steady racing pace over long periods.
polyamide rear section
the lightweight, three-piece rear section is more flexible than a traditional aluminum rear section. Combined with the frame's longitudinal flexibility and rear linkage system, it gives the rider a greater sense of comfort and confidence on his machine, enabling him to push the limits in all conditions and on all terrains. The composite rear frame design integrates an air box and rear grips.
new disc brakes
new GSK front and rear disc brakes offer superior stopping power and enhanced control thanks to their innovative design.
new front-end geometry
the details of the improvements made to AM 16 enduros concern the front axle, where a new 22 mm front wheel axle fitted with specific fork legs replaces the old 26 mm axle. The new axle is lighter and the fork legs have a smaller offset and greater caster, giving greater stability and better front-end feel.
dID wheels
black DID high-strength alloy wheels are matched with CNC-machined hubs and silver-anodized aluminum spoke nipples, for excellent performance and a modern look.
michelin tires
world Championship performance from Michelin Enduro Competition IV front tires and Michelin Enduro Competition III rear tires.
rear linkage
now in its third year of development, the rear linkage on Husqvarna enduros is proving to be the optimum choice for all riding styles and skill levels. This versatile system performs well on a wide variety of terrains, from narrow, technical tracks to wide, high-speed circuits. The high level of comfort provided by our linkage system enables the rider to tackle rough terrain with optimum feel and traction in all circumstances.
4CS fork
with the new offset on the fork crowns and fork legs, the reglage of the 4CS has been revised to adapt to the new front-end geometry. In production for four years now, the 4CS fork has achieved a perfect balance between performance, feel and reliability. The 4CS fork's four-chamber system has been developed to improve damping, handling, flexibility and rider comfort, ideal characteristics for enduro riding. The selector settings can be quickly and easily changed via buttons at the top of the fork tubes. The red button on the right changes rebound damping, while the white button on the left changes compression damping. The WP suspension is of exceptional quality and offers the highest levels of performance. Precise design, quality materials and advanced production processes are the hallmarks of WP forks across the Husqvarna range.
tool-free air filter access
tool-free access to the air box, combined with a screwless air filter mounting system, makes air filter maintenance and inspection easier and faster. All models feature a dual air filter as standard, and a specially designed air intake neck for maximum power.
neken handlebars
neken angled handlebars in silver-anodized aluminum are a high-quality component on Husqvarna enduros.
new fork protectors
the fork protectors have been redesigned and no longer wrap around the fork leg. The new design facilitates access to the fork leg for maintenance and cleaning, as well as replacement. The white plastic now features high-quality, overmolded graphics for style and durability.
electric starter
the standard electric starter provides reliable, effortless starting, which is particularly appreciated in difficult terrain. The 4-stroke engine can be fitted with a kick starter.
