It' s been what... not even a year... Suzuki Italy presented a special GSX-R series featuring the names and colors of its greatest champions. Barry Sheene is the only one to be represented on two examples, for his victories in 1976 and 77.
English company Icon has gone off on another trip. Not a tribute deco, but an entire motorcycle inspired by the charismatic British champion.

Barry Sheene is closely associated with the Suzuki brand. So the mechanics can only come from there. Is it an updated 500 2-stroke block or an overexcited GSX-R mill that we'll find here?
The task falls to the old GSX's big 1402 cm3 oil-cooled engine. In the stout roadster, it was perfectly at ease and at work. But here...... It'll be just fine, as it's been copiously filled from the factory and amply pumped up by the in-house engineers. In the Icon workshops, it has been fitted with a Garrett turbo blowing at 0.4 bar, Carello connecting rods, Wiseco pistons, hand-made oil coolers and Motech electronics. Make some room on the avenues, it's got some serious power. 257 horsepower in the biasse... at the rear wheel. At the vilo, that's almost 280 horsepower. A mean Sheene. And not so far from a Kawa H2R. As for torque, it jumps to 18.4 mkg.

the engine's watts called for several versions of the clutch to arrive at a sufficiently robust model. This necessitated the design of new housings for the big 4-cylinder. But Icon hasn't stopped there. The Sheene benefits from a bespoke tubular aluminum frame made by Spondon, a homemade swingarm, an aluminum tank requiring a month's work (by hand), braking executed by 6-piston calipers from ISR, carbon rims and fairing, fully adjustable Bitubo suspension and a host of beautiful machined parts.

everything is polished, meticulously crafted, with attention to detail in every nook and cranny. Since Barry Sheene's family and friends were involved in the design, the tribute must be impeccable. Only the dashboard looks cheap. As opposed to the upper fork crown, adorned with his signature and that of his wife (Stéphanie), engraved in the flesh of the metal.
Symbolically, the bike also features the special emblem that the rider used to display on his helmet: the image of Donald Duck. You'll have to look a little harder, though, as the figure is not visible at first glance. A search under the rear frame will be necessary.

production of the Icon Sheene will be limited to 52 units. All different. This is not a ready-to-wear small series, but a made-to-measure model. Each machine will be built according to the measurements and requirements of the future owner. You'll also have the chance to buy a helmet painted by Mike Fairholme - the man who did Barry Sheene's helmets.
