presentation of the 350 OHC Special 2018
A wind of renewal is blowing through the iconic Jawa. The Czech brand recently presented the 350 OHC, a roadster designed to reinterpret the 350 type 634 of the 70s and 80s. Based on this motorcycle, a totally vintage café-racer adds a new generation to the catalog.
not bad, not bad at all, even this 350 OHC Special. With its dreamy Honda Six profile, cool two-tone paintwork and early Continental Circus look, the bike plays to the past. Jawa wants to offer its enthusiasts the tradition of racing motorcycles from the 50s and 60s, when Františka Š?astného and Gustava Havla shone.
Half-guidelines under the fork crown, a chunky fairing, a single-seat saddle with backrest, mirrors at the end of the handlebars - the sporting atmosphere is there. The manufacturer has also focused on appearance, with chrome, spoked wheels and tapered exhausts. A Cafra that's perfectly in tune with today's tastes, but with a slight downside. This is something that connoisseurs who follow Jawa news will quickly spot...
although this bike bears the Czech name, its underpinnings are far removed from its country of origin. And don't expect to find the 2-stroke twin used on the Style and 634 Retro. The base of this 350 Special comes from the manufacturer Shineray. The engine is based on the Honda XR 400 single-stroke design. An old-fashioned engine that allows you to take your time. Rated at 27.4 hp at 6,500 rpm and some 30.6 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, it doesn't promise to beat the clock, but simply to enjoy a leisurely ride.
A touch of Asia in the retro, but a touch of Europe too, with the adoption of Euro4 standards, with the low emissions that this implies, and the presence of ABS. The Special's dry weight is 167 kilos, 7 more than the 350 OHC.
a Czech motorcycle icon, Jawa was an illustrious brand in its day. We'll be able to catch a glimpse of it with this 350 OHC Special. We're not sure we'll be seeing any around here, since no one distributes the brand in France. Nevertheless, this machine is a real eye-catcher. But is it still a Jawa?
