Tired of being second-best or second-rate. That's probably what the big Versys thought after spending so much time next to (or behind) the SE version. A little hanky-panky later, it steals a lot of its attributes and doubles up as the Versys 1000 S.

This simplifies things. With 3 models and thus 3 equipment levels, Kawasaki no longer excludes the indecisive. The standard model focuses on the essentials; then you add more gear. Whether SE or S, the two big trail bikes in the range have exactly the same equipment, the only difference being electronic suspension on the SE.

In practical terms , this means that the Versys S gains more people on board. It has to be said that the trend is to outdo one another. Right off the bat, you'll notice that the Versys S has recovered its side lights to illuminate corners. Let's keep our eyes peeled for a larger, adjustable windscreen and handguards. Protection is better, and so is the bike. Some parts are covered with anti-scuff paint.

As for the engine, it simply passes Euro5. This good old 1043 cm3 goes through the Zs and Versys without losing any of its charm. Still a rebel on the ex-roadster, its character is curbed here by 4 riding modes (Sport - Road - Rain - Rider, the customizable one). While the two power levels and KTRC are still there, they are now supervised by Riding Modes. A la carte efficiency to suit your mood, complemented by comfort for the left boot with a shifter as standard.

Has cruise control been added? No, it was already present on the Versys. The same goes for the 12V socket, heated grips, all-LED lighting and other practical features. For example, there are anchor points for suitcases, a package-holding plate, a center stand and a large two-piece seat, just like a double-decker. If the seat is a little high for the rider, Kawa has made the seat 20 mm lower.
One of the new features is the dashboard, combining a color TFT screen with a needle-type rev counter. You're probably familiar with it. It's shared with the H2 phase 2, H2 SX and Versys SE. In addition to providing a wealth of information, the panel adapts to the surrounding light, offers a black or white background, has 2 display types and can dialogue with the smartphone. The Rideology app lets you consult the wheel's logbook, find out the details of your rides, control the phone's basic functions and check maintenance intervals, among other things.

Kawasaki VERSYS 1000 S 2024 this S on the Versys 1000 comes with 2 extra kilos. With a mass of 250 kg, we couldn't care less.
The chassis as a whole will not be affected. No change there. The aluminum perimeter frame retains its riding buddies: 43 mm upside-down forks, 320 mm brake discs aided by 4-piston radial calipers and KIBS intelligent anti-lock braking, 17-inch wheels with spokes that suggest a lot of road and very little trail (if any), horizontal monoshock rear suspension and KCMF trajectory control. The Showa suspensions are adjustable for preload and rebound.

As usual, the Versys will be available in Tourer, Tourer Plus and Grand Tourer versions. A step up the ladder is the SE version, differentiated mainly by Showa Skyhook electronic suspension.

Replacing my XX SuperBlackBird, preserved for 16 long years, was not an easy choice. A fantastic bike! An imposing, powerful, comfortable motorcycle, with a polished finish and remarkable reliability. A cruising missile... But the Sports-GT trend has evolved towards more versatile bikes, much less powerful and high on legs with the big road Trails. Without being convinced at first, I studied the various possible choices. From rather steep price tags to sporty machines, the range was wide enough. After various trials, my choice fell on the Versys 1000 SE Grand Tourer. What I lost to my Honda, I made up for with a more natural, upright riding position, appreciable comfort and just as much fun to ride. Kawasaki has made the choice to evolve its model over the years to, in the end, offer an accomplished motorcycle. Handling, braking, protection, duo and travel equipment are all top-notch, with all the latest electronic standards. After 4200 kms (the last 400 on the winding roads of the Auvergne volcanoes), I've confirmed my choice, with just one desire: to get back on the road... Rating : 5/5

Well married to the Japanese with the purchase of 7 motorcycles, I acquired a Versys 1000SE Grand Tourer 2024, a killer. It couldn't be more versatile. I love riding and making long trips, and I didn't think I'd find anything better than my Pan European 1300 ST. I have no regrets, as the riding position is less tiring, light compared to the 330 kg of the Pan, and ultra-maneuverable in town. You have to get used to electronics everywhere. It's true that I'm 1.68 m tall, but with the lowering kit and a gel and bultex seat from Moillo that saves a total of 7 cm, it's royal. A big road trail par excellence. Rating : 5/5

a former owner of 3 versys 1000, i opted for a (fantastic) ninja 1000 sx. i'm going to go back to the versys S, however, as it offers much better protection and the position is much straighter, which will be perfect for my cervical vertebrae, which were badly damaged by the ninja. the choice of reason over an extraordinary ninja. I own the 2022 model in the standard version with optional high bubble, quickshifter and grand tourer pack.
The 2022 green color is more discreet than in previous years, but gives it character. The bike is a real eye-catcher
The dealer suggested lowering the rear suspension by 2cms, which costs less than a low seat
After several duo tests, it was clear that the Versys offered the best comfort/price/pleasure ratio
The 4-cylinder engine offers unrivalled smoothness and ample power, allowing all riding styles, from cool to energetic, solo or duo
Despite its weight, the Versys 1000 remains surprisingly maneuverable. Its handling and braking are reassuring. The passenger appreciates the elevated position to enjoy the scenery
Shortcomings? Perhaps a slightly intrusive engine noise on the freeway, a quick shifter that's not very usable at low revs (to be seen over time, the bike only has 3000 kms), and fuel consumption that, for the moment, doesn't dip below 5.5l (6l/100 during a busy duo road trip in Corsica).
But once again, what an engine and what a pleasure!
