The 650 regularly makes charming little gestures, as it did in 2023 with more electronics. What has it added? Two elements, perfectly in tune with the times. First, all lighting is now LED. Second, the rear wheel operates under dynamic control. The 650 Ninja now features KTRC.
Traction control operates in 3 modes. The first is the most permissive, the second intervenes with more zeal, and for those who don't want to let the assistance handle the watts, it can be deactivated.
A few small improvements, two more lines on the CV without changing the profile - that of the most versatile Ninja.
It's worth remembering that it was given a new look in 2020. Playful and accessible, inspired by the spirit of Kawasaki's sport bikes, the 650 is back in the spotlight with a modified face and a new-generation dashboard. Leaving the Z 650 to go head-to-head with the class's smaller rivals, it intends to enhance its sex appeal with a series of refreshing upgrades.
It would be too simple to describe it as a streamlined roadster, since its silhouette is so sporty. Oscillating between the Ninja 500 and the ZX-6R 636, its face in turn takes on Kawa's identity genetics. A movement that began with the H2 / H2R and continues right up to the top of the 1000 Versys. This bike has fangs, but its aim is not to bite the road. It's more aimed at seducing city dwellers in the wind, driven by their time, eager to wriggle between buildings as long as they're willing to do some fine arsouilles when the week gets away.
The front end has evolved considerably, the sides to a lesser extent, while the tank and rear end have remained unchanged. Aesthetics are not the only beneficiary of the manufacturer's good offices. The emphasis has been placed on improving on-board comfort. To this end, the Ninja 650 gets a straighter (and lower) bubble designed to provide better protection against the wind. Passengers also benefit from a new seat. With 5 mm more consistency in the middle and 10 mm more on the sides, the buttocks will feel a little better considered.

It's on the instrumentation side that Kawa pulls out all the stops. No more needles or LCDs, but a handsome 10.9 cm TFT screen (4.3 inches - slightly smaller than the iPhone 6). The rider benefits from a high-tech display, with all the information neatly arranged, gear engaged and speed clearly visible, and a bar graph to indicate engine speed. Unfortunately, there are no handlebar controls to operate it.
The Ninja makes up for this with its connectivity: the panel is enhanced with a Bluetooth chip. This means you can pair up your smartphone and then use the 'Rideology' app to retrieve all kinds of information. Like the route taken, maintenance operations, certain notifications, etc...
This screen also takes visual comfort into account, offering a choice between a 'negative' or 'positive' display. What's more, it adapts to ambient light.
Modifications to the chassis are less extensive. The Ninja 650 retains its tubular steel chassis, with a conventional 41 mm fork, preload-adjustable monoshock and adequate braking. Two 300 mm petal discs at the front with double-piston calipers and a 220 mm disc, also petal, clamped by a single piston. It's not sporty, but it's sure to respond appropriately to the demands made on it. Almost nothing has changed since the previous version. The only change is the new tire compound, with Kawa opting for Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2.
The twin-cylinder engine has also undergone a minor update. A few tweaks to the intake and exhaust allow the 649 cm3 to get stronger at mid-range. Without reducing its maximum power output, perched at 68 hp at 8,000 rpm. Torque has fallen slightly, to 6.5 mkg (surely the effect of standards). This engine already knew how to take its crew along with gusto, even teasing the motardus velocus in all of us. Its behavior should be preserved, with that little extra hint of mid-range grunt.

The Kawasaki Ninja 650 completes its evolution with LED eyes - 2023 adds turn signals - to boost the efficiency of its front lighting. The rear had already been benefiting for some time. With this package, the Ninja won't be changing its dynamic behavior, but it will be taking the 'pleasure of attraction' slider up a notch. Are you hesitating? Not her!

On the other hand, it's not a trail bike, so it won't be suitable for off-roading, of course. On the road, it's excellent too! Beautiful and endearing, an excellent urban bike, even with SDS! With Rideology, you can keep track of your routes, get a note on your riding, get a ranking, etc. In short, it's a hell of a toy for getting around town and going for rides!
