presentation of the Meguro S1 2026

Meguro! A name rising under the sun. Some may think it's a new Japanese player in the world of motorcycles. But it's an iconic brand: nothing less than the central pillar of Kawasaki's first bikes.

Before that, Meguro was founded in 1924 to produce transmissions. The company was then one of the first in Japan to start creating motorcycles. It began with a 500 in 1937, the Z97. Some thirty models followed, before Kawasaki consigned them all to oblivion after absorbing the brand - in October 1964.

But in Akashi, nostalgia brought Meguro back to life at the end of 2020. A K3 model was cloned from the W 800 to revive the name founded by Nobuji Murata. Then a small S1 presented its wheels in 2023. A short wait and she was allowed to show her face here.

This little classic bike is as cute as a button, inspired by the 1964 250 SG. A real W 800 in miniature, like a runaway from a museum and the size of a 125. In fact, it's not much bigger. The Meguro S1 is powered by a 233 cm3 single-cylinder engine. A displacement almost impossible to find in our country.

With 18 hp and a mini-torque of 1.9 mkg, the S1 doesn't claim to be nervous. Nor does it want to be. Look at its '60s damsel look, its little air-cooled engine with 2 valves, a compression ratio worthy of the post-war era, the single camshaft, and its flimsy exhaust line ending in a sausage. You'd almost want to take out a screwdriver to adjust the carburetor - but there isn't one, it's an injection.

The Meguro is made for strolling, as if time had stood still. A bike on which you'd put a time convector to greet your great-grandparents and share a slice of chicory. But underneath its vintage look, the S1 complies with a certain modernism, with disc brakes, ABS and an LCD screen hidden in one of the two needle meters.

Meguro S1kawa offers its little protégée a few elements to enhance the look, such as spoked wheels, the old Meguro emblem in 3D on the sides of the tank, a chrome finish and steel mudguards. But what's that strange 170-like logo? It's neither speed nor displacement. It's the name Meguro written in Japanese characters Meguro.

All around and underneath, the technical side is identical to that of the W 230. Engine, double cradle steel tube frame, 37 mm fork, dual preload-adjustable shock absorbers, light weight (143 kg) and low seat height (only 740 mm) all announce simplicity and lightness of ride.

Meguro was born 100 years ago, and disappeared exactly 60 years ago. History buffs have not forgotten the marriage with the compatriot.
In the middle of the last century, the first Kawasakis were none other than Meguro models, slightly revised following an agreement between the two brands. Shortly afterwards, Kawa bought Meguro, and the adventure began in earnest, culminating in the successes the brand has achieved throughout its history.
Today, the Meguro S1 is a rebadged Kawasaki. It shares almost everything with the W 230 (little sister of the iconic classic W 800). We may not see many of them on the road, but they're sure to be the first thing on everyone's mind - in dealerships or under balconies.

French Model 2026
Well, I've got mine (the first one sold in France, according to my dealer). The reason(s) for my choice? I don't know, probably nicer than a scooter, less practical, with a 50s or 60s look, very instinctive handling and ridiculous running costs. After 2,000 km, I can't get enough of this little moped: it's a pleasure to drive in almost all circumstances, and its fuel consumption is ridiculous (2.7 liters on average) Rating : 5/5
French Diego Model 2025
I've just covered over 3000km on my Meguro S1. Just before, I had a W800 that had become too heavy for my boomer body!...but I've also had RE Classic 500s, Meteor 350s and Classic 350s. So, what can I say? 233cm3 isn't much, 18hp isn't much, but 143kg TPF isn't much, and all of a sudden, the 18 ponies take to the mechanics with a certain gusto. It's light, lively, easy to handle, a real eye-catcher, it gets enthusiasts talking, it cruises in the countryside, it undulates in town... in short: it's a lot of fun! Rating : 4/5
French Sinclair Model 2025
It's pretty, it's nice, but it won't sell. Opposite it, a 350 gb that's timidly arriving with a lot more going for it: more displacement, more power (even if it's not much more...), and the added bonus is that it's a lot cheaper... it's amazing to throw bikes at us that you know won't sell... French Rémy Model 2025
The price on the Kawasaki France website is 5199 euros for the W230 and 5899 euros for the Meguro S1. This is very expensive compared to the selling price in Asia (more than 1000 euros cheaper), whereas the W800 is the same price here. Too bad, I would have been interested in it for short trips. Rating : 3/5
French Rene Model 2025
Well, I'm not going to be too harsh, since I'm all for promoting small-displacement bikes, but as my friend says, we're too close to the values of a 125, in every way, and as we all know, a 250 is harder to resell than a 125. I also had a GN250 to get back into motorcycling, and 23hp is already enough for a lot of daily commutes, as it is now with my Honda Crf250L. Same weight as the kawa but a handful more hp. Quite simply, I love it... Rating : 3/5

French Aldau Model 2025
Hello, it's a shame it's not coming out in 250cc, better 300cc. With its 18hp it's a bit too little for a duo and too close to the power of a 125. With 26 to 30 hp, it would be an ideal little bike that I'd be willing to buy. I currently own a 1996 suzuki GN 250 with 22 hp. After that, don't complain if sales aren't up to scratch. DOMAGE everything is great the weight the look the line I'm a fan. ALAIN DAUMAS Rating : 3/5
French Alain81 Model 2025
I like the vintage look, with its simplicity and lack of electronics, and it's good enough for a leisurely stroll and/or for shopping in town! Rating : 4/5
