presentation of the 1200 ZZR 2005

it's new, but instantly recognizable. Shapes and curves mingle in an imposing template where ZZR genetics live on. The myth has guided the designers' pencils, bringing a piece of Kawasaki legend into the 21st century. We've kept the good old recipes, with a sturdy, redesigned perimeter frame, a big carbureted 4-cylinder that's gained 112 cc, watts and torque, and a new exterior that doesn't betray the ZZR spirit. Classier, more imposing, the new look (reminiscent of the Triumph Trophy) seems less aggressive than that of the 1100.

is this deliberate? The 1100 was Kawa's big sports bike when it was born, the one that broke the 280 barrier in the early 90s - today, that role has devolved to the ZX-12 R; the ZZR has been repositioned as a sport-GT. In keeping with the softer lines, the riding position has been gentrified: the rider is less supported, and the legs are less curled up. This doesn't mean, however, that you don't have to worry about getting used to it. This is a big, heavy machine. It has gained 8 kg (now 280), and with the legs further apart and the saddle raised, you have to be careful.

and smoothly on the torque of the big distiller. Well-known and recognized, the Kawa block doesn't display any technological profligacy to express itself lavishly: big torque and sensations, that's its ambition. Those who knew the big-hearted factory 1100 will be delighted to rediscover the bearded, bear-like tone that enchants against the bland, yet hyper-efficient blocks of the modern era. Before the mid-range, the mill remains quiet, scraping away at its voice. Expressive, it pushes from 4500 to 8000 rpm with striking ease. Nearly 12 mkg are on hand to ensure hellish acceleration. After that, it spits out huge watts, propelling the ZZR like a cannonball. All with a gut-wrenching roar.

it pushes, it vibrates, it expresses itself, it rages, it lives! It's not a serious GSX-R VVVrrroouuiippp, but a furious, angry BBBRRRVVVOOOOUUPPPPPPP. Even the French version benefits from this low- and mid-range behavior. Only the firepower is attenuated at the top of the needle - but the essential sensations are preserved. Although smooth, the gearbox is not as quick and precise as a modern selection. With its new front axle, the 1200 engages more delicately on corners, but the suspension lacks a certain rigor when the road is no longer a billiard table. You have to bring it into the bend smoothly, then let it get its footing, and sit it down as you come out of the bend, having to play with a throttle that lacks precision. Not to mention the considerable weight, which needs to be held with a firm hand. The ZZR can't be tamed by just anyone.

KAWASAKI 1200 ZZR it's more at home on long curves and high-speed routes. Because protection isn't bad on this machine. The double-curved bubble protects the rider at speeds of up to 180 km/h, in very decent comfort. Where the ZZR also marks time is in its equipment. The new dashboard contains the same information as before, and lacks a second instrument cluster. The Kawa has also lost the practical retractable lugs at the rear and the storage compartment in the fairing.
And will you believe me when I tell you that you can switch to reserve manually?

the passenger will be less comfortable than on the 1100, sitting higher up and holding on to handles that are less effective than the roll bar on its predecessor. The ZZR isn't a bad bike, but it's out of date. Weight reduction is essential, the equipment list needs to be extended, and dynamic behavior also needs to be upgraded. Nevertheless, the 1200 has a thunderous character, increasingly rare in the 4-legged machines of the Motardus Sapiens Radicalus era.

i'm 66 years old, I got my license 2 months ago, after riding a Kawa550 I just bought the 2002 zzr 1200, I just did 400 kilometers, it's great !!! Good machine, even for a "young" biker like me! It's ideal for long-distance riding, and what a looker it is! Between 140 and 160 it consumes quite a bit of fuel, so I'll have to reduce the speed. Bonne route à tous. Rating : 5/5

What is it worth as a duo? Is not having ABS a penalty?

French Model 2005
62,000 kilometers with this machine. I could never bring myself to sell it, even though I'd bought a new bike in the meantime. If the handling and speed leave something to be desired on poor surfaces, if winding roads are not its preferred terrain, on the other hand its engine is fabulous! A sensation factory. After riding a fuel-injected bike for 3 years, with all too often the feeling of riding a Varta battery, I have no regrets whatsoever about re-forking my Kawa to rediscover the old-fashioned pleasures of engines that smell of gunpowder. For would-be buyers, I'd say: if you're a beginner, pass on this bike, as it's so powerful and unreasonable, it's dangerous. If you've got boards, go for it: this is a bike like no other. Its qualities and the charisma of its engine will soon make you forget its shortcomings! Rating : 4/5

It's got it all:
power, good agility for its weight, comfort, roadholding.

very reliable, which is no mean feat given the price of overhauls and consumables, and long-lasting, both over distance and at sustained speed.

After trying out different machines, I have to say that the ZZR 1200 is a good GT.
Heavy at standstill and in town when the going gets rough, but otherwise a breeze.
I have no regrets about this purchase

i've been a motorcyclist for several years, and I wanted a sporty GT because I ride all year round. It's an excellent machine for devouring national routes without consuming too much fuel, but it's heavy in town, that's true. I can't wait for spring so I can head for Holland, where I'm planning my next trip. Bon vent a tous Rating : 5/5

I own a zzr 1200 from 2002 and I currently have 82,000 kms on the odometer. apart from the same complaints as the other owners, i.e. shortness of ride in town, poor road holding on deteriorated roads, ineffective rear shock absorber. on the other hand, no mechanical problems, normal oil change and overhaul, spark plugs, air filter etc. on time.On the other hand, I still have the orine chain and transmission kit, as well as the timing gear ... Super Exellente machine ... I live in Marseille and every day my ass is on the saddle, which I had customized ... Here's a good road to you owners of a zzr 1200 and other soon Cricri 13 Rating : 5/5
French Model 2005
From 1,500 to 2,000 kms a month on a ZZR 1200. I'm very happy with it. My only complaints are the weight at a standstill, the handling in (very) sporty conditions and the firmness of the suspension on rough roads, even if the comfort isn't as beastly as I've heard. I did 500 kilometers in a row on roads that weren't always very good, and despite everything, the rear end held up well. The position is slanted, but without handicapping city driving. You have to choose your tires carefully. The ZZR has a tendency to abuse soft-compound tires. The engine is great, it pushes without limits (unbridled version, I live in Belgium...). I stopped at 280, and in my opinion, you can go up to 300 without any problems. In any case, it's impossible to drive for long at these speeds. Its ideal speed is between 180 and 220; beyond that, it becomes physical... In short, an excellent bike. Rating : 5/5
French Model 2005
Now 3 years old on this ZZR1200, it's my first Kawa in 30 years of riding (licensed at 16 in my day). I'm surprised by the quality of the materials and assembly (almost perfect). In full power, it pushes hard, and at 130 on the freeway, 5.7 l per 100 is cool
I always ride with a passenger, and this is the best duo bike I've ever owned (FJ1200 great too (2EX), XJR1300 not so great, etc.)
Perfectly satisfied except for two points: the weight when stopped and in town (traffic jams) and the magnability at low speeds < 30km/h
Its preferred domain, the giant slaoom, large curves at high speed > 160 KH
Very pleasant in the GD col des alpes
For me, a success.

i've been training my 12000zzr for over 2 years now, and to be totally honest: the only thing I have to complain about is its rear shock absorber, which is "unbearable". Despite all that, with a 4/1 and an optimized bubble (and free version.... goes without saying), it's an exellent spout with no problems whatsoever, because it's a classic design, so there are no surprises... Rating : 5/5
