presentation of the ZXR 750 STINGER H2 1990

the sun sets on 1988. It's been a few years now since Suzuki put its racing stamp on the road with the 750 GSX-R. On the prestigious sportsbike front, the battle rages between the Honda RC 30, the Yamaha FZR 750 R, the Ducati 851 and the Suz GSX-R 750 R. It's not all good news for Kawasaki. Its ageing GPX 750 has neither the means nor the philosophy to compete (even if it does pretty well in Promosport). Unbearable for the brand from Akashi, with its glorious sporting past (750 H2, 900 Ninja, etc.) and whose ZXR-7 competition bike is highly competitive.

here's the green response, and the birth of a fantasy for all Kawasakists. As Endurance and Superbike regulations limit the displacement of 4-cylinders to 750 cm3, Kawa's new sports bike will be a 3/4 liter. And not just any bike! Kawa took only the engine from the GPX, reworked it seriously, and created an entirely new machine around it. Thus was born the ZXR 750 STINGER. With its ambiguous name, long lines and menacing face, this machine smells like a ground-to-ground missile. Put on a racing helmet, choose the green-white-red color scheme and you'll feel like you're at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the factory ZXR-7 (it finished 2nd in 88).

Kawasaki ZXR 750 STINGER H2 1990in terms of looks, we're not disappointed. Nervous double headlights, long, sporty fairing, triple-spoke wheels painted in the dominant color, reinforced swingarm, and the must: 2 pipes drawing air through fairing gills and plunging directly into the fuel tank. Damned! Are we looking at a prototype? No, a production machine; and even if the role of these ducts is limited to... bringing fresh air to the cylinder head (on the ZXR-7, the blast goes directly to the carburetors), the little magic touch and the racing illusion work.
Let's undress this Stinger and see what it's hiding under its tricolored suit. Bare naked, this sports car can't cheat. Does it tremble? Not at all, as its chassis and innards bear witness to the importance Kawasaki places on its new spearhead. Imposing, the new frame follows the trend of modern sports bikes: a perimeter assembly consisting of two aluminum spars welded to foundry plates. Called E-BOX FRAME, it also uses two removable lower cradles for a dual purpose: a little extra rigidity and support for the fleet and oil radiators.
As for the wheels, there's nothing to worry about. The fork, which has not been encumbered with an anti-dive system of dubious effectiveness, has 2 275 mm discs and 4-piston calipers at the end of its stroke. Braking is good, consistent and powerful, with a certain firmness of control. As for adjustment, the front features hydraulic preload and rebound. The shock absorber is adjustable only for preload. However, the linkage on which it is anchored features a practical trick for competition use. The attachment is mounted on an eccentric, allowing the machine's attitude to be varied without interfering with the settings. There's no doubt about it: this 750 wants to be on the track. A very legitimate sentiment for this revival of the Ninja spirit. But once you're on board, you realize that the beast isn't all that exclusive. The riding position is sporty, but not excessive, the handlebars not too low, and the disconcertingly easy handling makes it almost an everyday sports bike. In town, it's still bearable, although the 230 kg have a hard time being forgotten. Of course, this is not the environment in which a Superbike in the making is going to express itself. It's in the big curves that it lives, where it demonstrates its stability at high speed. Homogeneous and more accessible than its racing design would suggest, it can only be criticized for being a little stiff. A little more agility on the menu and it would be at its best.

Kawasaki ZXR 750 STINGER H2 1990 - 1Kawasaki ZXR 750 STINGER H2 1990 - 1

Kawasaki ZXR 750 STINGER H2 1990a growl, a muscle, teeth escaping lips, punch, needles going to the right all the time: that's what you'd expect from a Kawa. However, there's no question of developing an insane mill like the RC 30's V4 and announcing a suffocating price tag - Kawa wants its Ninja to be accessible, so that you can ride it without taking out a 1,000-year loan. Taking over the 7 and a half GPX block, the engine-makers had to do a great job of making it as exciting as the machine it was to be fitted to. First, it had to breathe. A good 36 mm carburetor manifold (+ 2 mm) is fitted to 45° straightened intake ducts, resulting in a straighter gas flow. The cylinder head is all-new, with valves actuated directly by the cams (ciao linguets). In the cylinders, compression increases a tad from 11.2 to 11.3:1. The bottom end of the engine remains virtually unchanged, but features a lightened vilo and a modified clutch with an automatic disengagement system in the event of too much torque being returned by the rear wheel during deceleration. A new stainless-steel pot takes care of the boiler - in 90, the 4-in-2-in-1 is replaced by a 4-in-1, as in endurance racing. The oil filter is moved from its ambiguous position and attached to the oil sump. The engine gets some of the same parts as the factory kit, with revised camshafts and larger valves. The swingarm changes shape, the carburetors gain 2 mm in diameter, the radiator is larger and, as a little bonus, the mirrors are painted body color. When the throttle is released, the soundtrack retains its score and vocals. And what a song it is! A deep, throaty rumble that bubbles up from the revs. When it comes to pleasure and power, this 750 has nothing to learn. You don't have to wait until 10,000 rpm for it to start showing off. The horses start to come on strong in the mid-range, pulling the cavalry along until 8,000 rpm, when the big potato unloads with a vengeance. It may be civilized, but the engine's unrestrained character will keep you on the edge of your seat. With its 107 hp, the Stinger blasts along at more than 240 km/h. That's enough to calm a lot of people down and forge a reputation for itself.

exciting, with a strong image and a provocative name, efficient, homogeneous and punchy, far more accessible than the fantastic Honda RC 30 or Yamaha FZR/R, the Kawasaki ZXR 750 Stinger combines many qualities. It allows the manufacturer to return to a definition of the essential sportbike: driving pleasure and a character that's as clear-cut as it is sharp.

mon avis ne regarde que moi !!!!!
French dumé Model 1989
i've had an H2 in my procession for a good few years now, and it's not easy to find parts in good condition when it's second-hand... the original water tank is a nightmare... the noise and the peach as they say INTRONCHABLE... I don't take it out very often, but when I do you can hear me from a distance and you can only catch a glimpse of me.I'm 57 and I love this bike, hard to drive these days on the open road, you have to stay focused, no room for error... I wanted to part with it for a while, a young guy came to see it and I didn't sell it to him... too scared that his father would come and tell me some bad news... so I keep it and enjoy it from time to time with the big mito's on the road and the knowledgeable eyes of the enthusiasts... Indeed, a super bike, a true Kawa like no other. Great handling for its time, although the front end was a bit (very bit) lazy and had to be forced. It did 270 on the odometer, and still had that Kawa kick in the ass. Rating : 4/5

Mon amour de jeunesse
French Model 1990
It was the motorcycle that made me want to be a biker! 15 years after my love at first sight, I find a cheap one... It's been broken: I'm taking it back!
Admittedly, it's not up to today's standards, but once you've got the hang of it: virile handling due to the weight, leaning on the legs, it's got what it takes to blow away more than one, even the youngest ones! A true Kawa engine: a good kick in the ass at 8,000 rpm, and a unique face that attracts the sympathy and conversation of connoisseurs!
She'll soon have a little sister, but if I have to keep just one, it's her!

my childhood dream finally fulfilled! of course, compared to today's motorcycles, it's a step down: chassis a bit truck-like (but hyper-stable, so you relearn to ride with your whole body, including when you go to work) brakes not as powerful as full radial, but enough to stop the beast (and then you anticipate) a look you don't see on every street corner (those two pipes... and above all, an engine! not the most powerful, not the liveliest, but I've never had so much character under the right-hand grip, it growls under 4,000 rpm, it's made to go... and after 6,000... it doesn't stop! and if you cut back a bit, it wants more! mine is 23 years old and takes me to work every morning with the same pleasure, and I drop 2-3 on the way! Une Fusée
French Stinger89 Model 1989
Well, I've had one too, since 2002, but it doesn't run any more because I've mellowed out (I switched to diesel with Harley) and it's also been sleeping in my stall for 5 years, so there are quite a few things to change, especially the Dyno-jet kit (the competition air filter of the time), which is completely clogged...yes, I know, sacrilege!

Entirely prepared by Godier-Genoud at the time, on the dyno, she reached 130hp 100% racing, red, grey and black, 68,000km, top speed, well, how can I put it, well, I stopped accelerating at 280 km/h on the odometer and she still wanted more! in short, pure pleasure...I'm putting this little message in for an enthusiast who would come and pick her up in Switzerland (Geneva) for 1,100euros

I bought it new in 1989 as soon as it came out, the stinger a pure racing beast, a jewel, she and I put on 45,000 kms. I've seen a lot of breakage and friends die with this bike. I've been on the circuit, giant!!!!!!! I recommend it to very experienced riders and pilots! Then I had a 1992 model, the zxr 750! Good too, less advanced engine, still 45,000 kms... and I bought the 92 model 3 years ago, but we can't ride it anymore, so I sold it with regret! The circuit is too expensive, and the road even more so! Bonne route à tous :) Rating : 5/5

Having owned several of them, I can tell you that the h2 is a sublime bike in every respect and that it gives you a gigantic dose of adrenaline with each rotation of the right-hand grip. i've been riding these kawa 720 h2s since 72
I've owned 18 of them, even the 75 model (a little bland for my taste). Currently, I own 6 in various states of repair, including one with 140,000 kms.none of them give me the adrealine and savagery of the h2.the only one on its handlebars that (still) makes me dream.i've got a prepare that cruises at 250 km/h.pure madness, with fuel consumption too, but sensation guaranteed

I also had this kind of missile for 2 years, a blue one bought from Alain Renouf of Nice, a mountain champion for the young hill-climbers of the time, who died at Paul Ricard in 1974. I even drove it around Paris as a courier.Yes, I know, "sacrilege", it's the same as riding an R1 now, but when you love it, you don't count.traffic in Paris was completely different.my boss at the time paid for everything, spark plugs, petrol and oil, and I managed to get the tires myself, thanks to Franck Belin of Dunlop France. A fabulous bike, nothing could stand up to it. An American magazine called it: "the fastest bike from one pump to the next". But getting your foot in the door made sense, especially with Kawa-style tires. No original brake, not to be compared with the H1, though. But it went a little better with a simple Z1 (900) clamp, but it's true that with double discs, you could already do a bit of piqué, so you youngsters haven't invented anything.Gilles Husson used to do it with a fiat 238 (pick-up truck)the photo exists in an old Moto Journal from the 70s,Gilles, it's the "old guy" who gave you a beard at the 2006 Tour de France moto with his scooter.I've never found that feeling in any of today's models, and yet I still ride in winter and summer, except in a 1977 KTM 400 2-stroke enduro. In short, it pushes hard, not too much brake, and glou-glou for fuel consumption. Thanks again, Mr Maugendre, for importing these fantastic machines. Rating : 5/5
