presentation of the Z 650 Performance 2021

Did you know which Kawasaki motorcycle was the first to come with a "Performance" package? In fact, there are two: the ZX-10R and the ZZR 1400, my2010. The origins of this set of accessories go back to the missile and rocket version of the big sport bike, forging a certain stature, focusing desires and perpetuating an idea. It's been more than 10 years since the "Performance" models first appeared.

They're available on all models, with varying degrees of edginess (in content or form). The Z 650 is one of the chosen few. Still well placed in the entry-level segment, benefiting from a recent redesign that boosted its technological side, here it is more capable of making its twin belch via the Akrapovic silencer. Warm breath passes through its titanium body, then flies out of a carbon mouth, with a few more present, drier sound waves escaping at the same time. The bike takes advantage of this to lighten by 2.7 kilos and gain a few watts. Akra claims a gain of up to 2 hp at 8,600 rpm, a little more maximum torque and up to 2 nm more power at mid-range.

For "Performance" bikes, you also need to look the part. The passenger seat is kindly removed in a cardboard box to make way for a rear cowl to match the grinding wheel. A smoked bubble adds a touch of aggression to the fork head, along with a minor protective cover.
The fuel tank can count on a gel sticker to protect it from jacket scratches, keys slipping, smartphones slipping from fingers and coins at the McDonald's drive-thru.

Now it's ready. The Z 650 Performance has relieved you of a larger-than-expected bill. A good month's salary has gone up in exchange for the package. To please yourself, but also (and more importantly?) to give the Z a welcome hairy growl. With around 70 horsepower under his belt, a pocket-sized frame, delectable ease, Balkan vociferation, a hair's breadth of extra style and a dose of geek under his nose, the driver can walk out of the dealership with a badass in the making.
