at last, a manufacturer has decided to please a certain category of riders. For enthusiasts of small, souped-up cylinders, where trajectory perfection is transcended by the roar of the engine.

it's also the glory of an era with machines of a different kind. 30 years after the 400 VFR and ZXR 400 (and other FZRs and GSX-Rs of this displacement), the compact 4-cylinder sports bike is back with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R.

mind you , this is not a variant of the Ninja 400, the sport-GT with a twin-cylinder in its belly, although it looks a lot like it. No, it's a new sports bike in the range, derived from the ZX-25R (reserved for the Asian market), with the R7 and RS 660 in its sights. Its engine block is sure to thrill, while it revs and revs.

while mills in the same displacement bracket as the RC 390, Ninja 400 or R3 develop between 40 and 45 hp, the 399 cm3 of the ZX-4R sends out no less than 77 hp. Or even 80 with the forced-air intake system. With its cubic capacity and 4-cylinder architecture, the machine should be hollow at low and mid-rpm, but explosive at higher revs. In fact, it's the high revs that will be at the party. More than 15,000 rpm are predicted before the red zone, while you'll have to go for the watts at 14,500 rpm.

Braking is equally impressive, with 290 mm discs squeezed by 4-piston radial calipers.

those who knew the ZXR 400 R could enjoy fine-tuning their carburetors. No such thing on the ZX-4R, but traction control and 4 riding modes: "Sport", "Road", "Rain", and the customizable "Rider". A 4.3-inch TFT color screen provides information, especially on the "Track" theme, with engine speed above 10,000 rpm, gear engaged and lap times.
SE and RR versions add an Up&Down shifter to the package. The Special Edition also comes with a smoke bubble, a USB socket and a set of crankcase guards.

Let's keep a bit of software on hand. The power of this troublemaker makes our mouths water (192 hp/liter), but it's aimed above all at fans of sporty driving and howling engines. And we won't be seeing all three versions. For the moment, the SE remains outside our borders, but the R and RR will be offered.
Last but not least, the price. This kind of little bomb isn't usually cheap. The base version costs just under 9,000 euros. It's in the same bracket as the Ninja 650, but with a very different, much more incisive character.

I've had this bike for 3 months now, and from an objective point of view, it's very nice for a 400, but you're not quite saturated when it comes to power, which makes it very accessible and playful. This makes it a very accessible and playful bike. Super easy to handle in town, but it does heat up a bit (too much). It's a bike to see as a cross between an A2 and a real sports bike, for people who don't need 150hp to have fun and who love the sporty look! Rating : 5/5

I tried out this bike at a dealership out of curiosity, but what can I say? .... First of all, it's way too expensive for what it is, the finish isn't great, the riding modes are useless, and the designer is in the spirit of the times. In fact, it looks like a zx10r, but apart from the sporty stance and fairings, it's far from feeling like a real sports bike. It's heavy for a 400, so it lacks torque, and the chassis is sluggish and not terribly precise. It brakes pretty well and the forks may be its strongest point, but they don't break 3 legs on a duck... in short, for me, there's no point other than looking like a sports bike, and the A2 can be clamped as a joke... the insurance will break your ... because yes, for insurers, it's a sports bike LOL, so there's no point in paying... you might as well wait for the two to buy a real sports bike, and for less if you look hard enough in the 600 segment of the time, which is unfortunately no longer available in our country... @Darcka this zx4R is not A2 adjustable! And neither is the Ninja 400, because in full throttle it doesn't exceed 47hp. In any case, I can't wait to try out this new Kawasaki, and maybe more if I'm lucky .... You can find the test on my youtube channel. Rating : 5/5

I'd love to try it out, even if it's not ultra-powerful, it's got to be ultra-sporty! The thing I find a shame is the weight... The same as the new Hornet 750, which is a more basic machine all the same
a full 175 kg would have been more fun and efficient, but maybe not at the same price either.
