presentation of the ZXR 400 R 1995
it could look like a bluff or a daring gamble, but there it is: a Kawasaki ZXR... 400 cm3. A displacement that's very much out of fashion in France. So why did Kawa France decide to import it to France? Quite simply, for the pleasure of the sport.
because of their hollow character and cruel lack of watts, 4-cylinder 400s have never had much success in our country. On the other hand, this displacement is very popular in Japan. There, renowned sports bikes with a low cubic capacity delight young Nipponese: GSX-R 400, FZR 400... (Editor's note: if you look back over a longer period, you'll find 400 cm3 models such as the Bandit, CBR, Monster, VFR, SVS...).
The ZXR was conceived as a passion machine, with no real notion of profitability or commercial success. In fact, at almost 5 bricks, there's plenty to think about. That's the price of a good 750, but it may not bring you the same level of satisfaction; or rather, not in the same way.
the pleasure is first and foremost visual. The Kawa is a beautiful, very sporty machine, reminiscent of the Stinger or the ZXR 7 endurance bike. Aggressive, racy and flatteringly proportioned, the bike is easily mistaken for a top-of-the-range model. And since there's never any reference to displacement (except on the registration document), it's almost impossible to guess that this is a "small" ZXR. A perfect illusion in the paddock. But don't be fooled into thinking that this is a machine that looks the part but doesn't act the part. No, it's a real sports bike, and one that can dry up more than one on the track. The chassis is beautifully designed, with an aluminum perimeter frame, 41 mm inverted fork, aluminum swingarm very similar to that of the Stinger, 300 mm brake discs and wide rims fitted with radial tires - 120/17 at the front and 160/17 at the rear.
unlike bigger bikes, which impose a muscular ride due to their high power output, the 400 allows a cleaner ride, in search of beautiful trajectories to take full advantage of cornering speed. The pleasure of drawing a beautiful curve, then accelerating early in the turn to come out fast and true.
an exhilarating little bombshell to ride, it's nice and brave of Kawasaki to offer us this ZXR 400. Beautiful, sporty and generous, this little green sports bike is made for those who love trajectories. Yes, OK, it's not cheap, but this kind of bike isn't considered by its price, but by its qualities above all.

With the Kawa 2-stroke, it's the one I regret today. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Wolverine31
It doesn't pick up anything, as you'd expect from a Kawasaki, and behaves like a 2-stroke
Like its big sister, the 750 Stinger, it's as beautiful as you could wish for, and requires flawless maintenance. I'm the proud owner of a 1994 model, and I'm not about to part with it: it's a superb sports bike

There's no pick-up, which is to be expected from a Kawasaki, and it behaves like a 2-stroke.

voila it must be maintained as an exceptional motorcycle designed to promote the 400 of the time, French trophy from 88 to 94 or so with 400 FZR YAM and 400 VFR honda (single arm and everything and everything! mini RC 30 or 45 when not even ;)but the KAWA best engine race results attest

the speed I'm indicating (235km/h) is the top speed I've reached "on the odometer".it's obviously not a real speed.I think everyone on the web will have understood that.but killmaniac didn't seem to have grasped the nuance...how sad for him!
unless he didn't notice that his 400 Zxr had 6 speeds and not 5
come on, no hard feelings... Rating : 5/5 Respond to fred
j'en etais heureux posseseur ya de ca 7 ans
(in greece.and there are lots of 400s out there like fzr/gsxr/cbr rr/zx/zxr400 vs tzr/rgv/kr1s/nsr250)
these are the best sportbikes for learning how to drive well!!!
a croire que les 400 sont brider aussi en francelol Rating : 5/5 Respond to killmaniac
otherwise you're guaranteed engine failure (valve and cylinder head salad well known to Kawa dealers, who have sold Zxr 400s to morons who have no respect for the fragile mechanics of this bike)
apart from that, it's a breathtaking machine that works like a charm as long as you respect and pamper it. mine's original, and it does 235 kph (on the track!) without a problem. so if you're careful (respect the engine's warm-up time, don't over-rev and shift your gears with respect for the gearbox) and you've got a substantial maintenance budget, this rare machine is for you!on the other hand, if you're broke, not a handyman for a penny, and you're a motorcycle "smasher", GO AROUND! otherwise you're heading for ruin! buy an unbreakable bike instead (like the Honda cb 500).the Zxr 400 really is a bike for enthusiasts, for enthusiasts (and perhaps even the ideal sports bike for a woman, because of its low seat height).bonne route à tous!
