Their weapon: a carefully prepared KTM 690 Duke. The singular mono roadster from Mattighofen replaces the Kawasaki 250 Ninja in this rookie cup. As the beast will only be putting its wheels (lightweight Marchesini) on the track, KTM has not hesitated to remove all superfluous items. Headlights, indicators, number-plate brackets, ABS systems and other knick-knacks are consigned to the dustbin. Another trip to Powerparts for the right equipment? Let's take a concrete example: a firmer, higher seat that gives the rider more freedom to change position, and makes the machine much more ergonomic. Footpegs increase ground clearance by moving the feet higher and further back, while the Renthal handlebars provide a more race-like position. New brake caliper and radial Brembo master cylinder, to bite into a thicker brake disc.
Race machine rhymes with modified suspension. The 43 mm WP inverted fork gains 15 mm of travel and integral adjustment. The amorto is also fully adjustable. The engine cowling is more than just decorative. Compulsory, it allows fluids to be recovered in the event of oil or fluid loss.
