presentation of the 690 SMC R 2016
when Oli the Belgian got his hands on the KTM 690 SMC, it didn't take long for his test ride to turn into a fine session of SM, wheelies and unmeasured gallantry. Today, Katoche brings us an even spicier version: the SMC R. More style, more watts, more oomph.
This supermotard worthy of the name takes its engine from the 690 Duke R. With 67 hp, the single-cylinder engine spits out 3 more horsepower than the ex-standard SMC. In addition to the 3 available mappings, the moulbif also benefits from an anti-dribble transmission. Dry, punchy, sensational mechanics that also think about protecting the user's wallet (a little). Fuel consumption is claimed to be falling, and the service interval is extended to 10,000 kms. Since 2014, the mono has adopted dual ignition and a Ride-by-Wire system.
since the SMC, the 690 R has gained a pinch of weight. It doesn't even deign to dwell on it; for at just 140kg without petrol, the SMC-R plays in the super-light road machine category. It's a real toy that's sharpened up on many levels in this sharpened-up version.
in addition to the extra watts, the supermotard's frame has been painted orange, as is traditional for Mattighofen R models. Suspension is recalibrated, with reduced travel and more hydraulic restraint. The fork was upgraded in 2014, with separate damping circuits (compression in the left fork, rebound in the right). The KTM 690 SMC-R is also distinguished by its redesigned mudguard, sidewalls and saddle, as well as by its redesigned seat.the KTM 690 SMC-R is also distinguished by its redesigned mudguard, side panels and seat, as well as by a number of attractive parts, such as the fork tees cut from solid or the superb spoked wheels (orange anodized) fitted with very sporty Conti AttackSM tires. The tone is set: full throttle and plenty of fun. Bosch 9M+ ABS (or Supermoto ABS as an option) has been fitted since 2014, but it won't dampen your sporting spirit.

What's the difference between these 2 models? Is there one that uses less oil?

I would like to point out the very playful character of this machine, irresistible to my taste, a real crime buster.
Otherwise, I would have liked, if possible, to know the real content of the interventions carried out during the 10,000 kms overhaul. Thank you in advance Rating : 5/5 Respond to Teufsmcr04

But it's all a matter of feeling. If you feel good on it, so much the better. I think I'm too big for the SM.
And so do all the pro riders, but the Dakar riders are max 1.80m tall for bikes that weigh 180kg with 450cc engines (due to the petrol and h2O fluids).
Once again, it's up to you. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
In any case, it's a very good choice, because it's not a bike designed to be ridden hard (like a hypersport), but one that's very playful, with a nice sound. So don't give up your dream :) Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
I'm an A2 rider and yet it's impossible to get the banana out of my face every time I turn the handle! Very sound chassis, disconcertingly efficient in the mountains, engine that pulls over a very wide range. It takes very little time to adapt to this jewel. It deserves top marks.
Be sure to replace the original muffler with an Akra... Otherwise, beware of the... de m*rde, yes that's the word :/ Rating : 5/5 Respond to Florent
Fabulous bike, amazing engine, top braking.
We've also fitted the EVO1 kit to get some HP and a better sound.
My son's is still limited to 40hp, not 48, because of the power ratio with the new law, but in 2 months he'll be at full throttle.
The only drawback is that I'm 1.72 m tall and it just fits, whereas my son is 1.69 m tall, so it sucks, but it fits just fine. The problem is that the kickstand is too long, and you have to lean the bike to the right to get the kickstand out, otherwise it hits the ground before you get to the stopping point.
