presentation of the 250 EXC Six Days TPI 2018
No other brand in off-road motorsports has a track record comparable to that of KTM. The Six Days special edition models pay tribute to this success with special performance enhancements and high-end components. In 2018, this 'Six Days' version of the KTM 250 EXC is equipped with a major new feature: electronic fuel injection! A technology never before seen on a 2-stroke engine.

ENGINE
KTM's 250 cm3 engine has long enjoyed a reputation as the most powerful and competitive 2-stroke in its class. That hasn't stopped KTM engineers from taking it to the next level. The 2018 version of the KTM 250 EXC (European model only) introduces a new TPI (Transfer Port Injection) electronic fuel injection system, unique on a sporty 2-stroke. This patented system (with two injectors mounted on the cylinder transfers) makes the engine much smoother and more fuel-efficient, which is no mean feat in technological terms. The KTM 250 cm³ engine has also benefited from a number of improvements: modern shaft assemblies that promote mass centralization, a perfectly protected electric starter, a balancer shaft to reduce vibrations, a special Enduro 6-speed gearbox and a hydraulic DDS clutch. Let yourself be stunned by the gentle symphony of a 2-stroke engine and enjoy an ultra-smooth, ultra-safe ride.
FRONT SUSPENSION
The WP XPlor 48 upside-down fork is a fork with separate damping circuits, developed by WP in close collaboration with KTM. Each fork arm has its own spring, and each has a different function: the left arm handles compression damping, while the right arm handles rebound. To fine-tune each of these settings, simply turn the knob at the top of the fork. New fork forks and setups have also improved sensitivity, lightened weight and optimized fork damping behavior. To reduce the risk of bottoming, the fork is equipped with a sealed hydraulic stop. High-quality materials, an ultra-sophisticated production process, 300 mm of travel: nothing has been left to chance to make the new WP Xplor 48 fork the ultimate in responsiveness and damping. The preload ring (available as standard on Six Days models) makes it easy to adjust spring preload to three levels (standard, +3 mm, +6 mm), without the need for tools.
ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The engine management system (EMS) on TPI models is based on a new throttle body (39 mm in diameter) developed by Dell`Orto, and features a new control unit located under the seat. Ignition timing is calculated by the control unit. The precise amount of fuel to be injected depends on sensor readings such as ambient and intake air pressure, throttle position and oil and water temperature. As the system is designed to compensate for altitude and temperature fluctuations, injection requires no manual intervention on the part of the pilot.
FRAME
The high-tech chromium-molybdenum steel frame is a model of lightness, flexibility and maneuverability, offering excellent stability and devilishly precise cornering. Thanks to its high torsional stiffness and low longitudinal rigidity, this frame absorbs the energy generated by the front and rear suspensions when jumping or going over a bump. The ride is more comfortable and less tiring. The dropouts that link the cylinder head to the frame are as light as ever. Mounted laterally, they help limit vibration levels. Two threaded inserts have been provided in the lower cradle tubes to add a shoe, should the need arise. The engineers can be proud of their work, as the frame is now one kilo lighter than the lightest competing frame on the market today. Every effort has also been made to facilitate maintenance and free up space for the fuel tank and other components. On EXC TPI models, the fuel filler cap at the top of the frame feeds the oil tank via a hose inside the frame tube. The ultra-light buckle, made of stable aluminum profiles, weighs in at less than 900 grams.
FORK TIPS
All Six Days models feature top-of-the-range fork tees (CNC machined and orange anodized) with a 22 mm offset, for improved fork support and even more precise front-end behavior. Four positions are possible on the bike to move the handlebars forwards or backwards for a perfect grip.
BRAKES
More responsive, more efficient and more powerful than ever, Brembo calipers will cope with any situation. These little jewels of technology are combined with Wave brake discs, renowned for their lightness. The stainless-steel front brake hose features effective protection and a cable guide for the speedo wire. Optimum braking power is a must when you intend to push your machine.
