presentation of the 1000 V6 1978

Among the most spectacular machines of the 20th century, the sporty Laverda 1000 V6 holds a special place. Not only because of its engine, but also because of the fabulous destiny that eluded it.
The small Italian manufacturer wanted to create a competition motorcycle that went beyond dreams and performance. To this end, a 995 cm3 V-6 was developed. A unique and very powerful engine, with 140 hp at 11,000 rpm, it was developed by a former Maserati engineer, Giulio ALFIERI. This was not without its problems for the chassis design.

The Laverda V6 entered the 1978 Bol d'Or and made a big impression. The bike outclassed the best machines of the day in a straight line. It clocked 283 km/h, 38 km/h faster than the best bike on the grid, the Honda 1000 RCB. But its lack of tuning made it inefficient in the corners. It was unable to finish the race, and its career never progressed beyond this stage. Concerned about power escalation, the FIM subsequently limited engines to a maximum of 4 cylinders in Endurance racing.
It left an indelible mark on the motorcycling community and brought a prestigious aura to the brand. One of the most exceptional motorcycles ever created, in the opinion of all connoisseurs.
