from 1988 to 2025Africa Twin - The adventure trail

honda transposed the fragrance of rally-raids with its Africa Twin in 1988. A blend of Transalp and NXR (the rally machine of the time), it was the stuff of dreams for a number of adventurers. Its 647 cm3 V-twin isn't very powerful, but it takes you everywhere without a second thought. What's more, with its 24-liter fuel tank, the bike can go long and far.
In 1990, the engine was upgraded to 742 cm3. Barely more powerful than the 6?, it was to accompany the AT for almost 15 years. The look gained in presence, and the equipment was enriched. In 1994, new bodywork, a modified frame and a few more watts in the engine. Its successful and adventurous career lasted until 2003. The 1000 Varadero followed, much more powerful with its VTR engine, more bourgeois and GT, but forgetting the hectic side of off-road escapades.

2016 marks the return of the Africa Twin with an all-new 1000 cm3 parallel twin. Immediately acclaimed by the press and public alike for its off-road and on-road qualities, the CRF 1000 L relaunches the legend with its efficiency, power and simplicity - it can be fitted with the optional DCT robotized gearbox. A few years later, the 1100 arrives with a full complement of technologies (color TFT screen, traction and wheeling control, anti-stoppie with multiple riding modes, electronic suspension, cruise control, ABS reactive to cornering) and an Adventure Sports version with larger tank capacity and a more protective fairing.
