saroléa is a Belgian motorcycle brand founded in 1850 by Joseph Saroléa. Initially, the company manufactured guns, but soon turned to the production of bicycles and motorcycles.
in the early twentieth century, Saroléa began to make a name for itself in the world of motorcycle racing, achieving major victories, notably at the French and Belgian Grand Prix. The brand was also chosen as official supplier to the Belgian army during the First World War, producing military motorcycles for the troops.
throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Saroléa continued to be a major player in motorcycle racing, winning numerous titles in Belgium and Europe. During the Second World War, the company was forced to produce motorcycles for the German army, but quickly resumed its civilian activities after the war.
in the 1950s, Saroléa began to run into financial difficulties and was bought out by the British company Royal Enfield. However, the brand continued to produce motorcycles under its own name until it was finally sold to the German company Fichtel & Sachs in 1960.
production of Saroléa motorcycles ended in 1963, but the brand remained in the imagination of motorcycle enthusiasts and was reactivated in 2008 with a new range of electric motorcycles. Today, Saroléa is considered an emblematic brand in the history of motorcycling in Belgium and around the world.
