the brand was founded in 1895 by partners Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement. Initially a bicycle repair shop, Laurin & Klement soon became a manufacturer of bicycles, motorcycles and automobiles. In 1924, the brand was acquired by Skoda Factories, then a heavy weapons manufacturer and industrial conglomerate. Production of two-wheelers was discontinued, but cars continued to be made, now under the SKODA label.
