The legacy of George Brough
in 1919, motorcycle engineer, competitor and entrepreneur George Brough launched his first Brough Superior motorcycles in Nottingham, England. For 20 years, he developed extraordinary, superb motorcycles for the most demanding riders.
brough Superior owes its reputation to the quality of its finish, its unrivalled performance and the ease of use of its motorcycles, which no competitor was able to match. For once, a popular product truly lived up to its reputation. These machines combined meticulous craftsmanship and breathtaking performance for their time, with functional elegance and technical convenience. Brough Superior motorcycles were admired everywhere, and never shied away from a challenge! They were the very first super bikes in history.
the first Brough Superior motorcycle was presented to the public in 1921. The brand quickly earned an enviable reputation for combining unrivalled performance, stunning looks and competition success.
from the outset, Brough Superior motorcycles enjoyed extraordinary success in competition (George Brough himself was a pilot). They excelled in all categories, whether sprint, trial or hillclimb, on tarmac or dirt, asphalt or even ice! Brough Superior motorcycles were distributed on all five continents.
these successes, due to the talents of George Brough, an advertising and sales man with a keen sense of smell, led to a sharp rise in sales of Brough Superior road bikes. In 1923, H. D. Teague, test rider for The Motor Cycle magazine, coined the phrase that was to characterize Brough Superior motorcycles once and for all: 'The Rolls Royce of Motor Cycles'. The story goes that a Rolls Royce representative visiting Nottingham, spotting assembly workers wearing white gloves, declared that this legendary brand was in very good hands.
75 years after George Brough stopped making his legendary motorcycles, a new team has taken up the challenge, presenting an ultra-modern version of the SS100. It features the best of the original, including of course the iconic tank seat. To date, we've already notched up some remarkable victories.
George Brough gave the world some of the fastest and most remarkable motorcycles of his time. We're proud to be part of the renaissance of these legendary motorcycles. To meet this challenge, we're sparing no expense to pay George Brough the tribute he deserves.
