sherco is a French motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1998 by Marc Teissier and Andreu Codina, both former trials riders.
the first bike is an ST2.5, a 250 cm3 trials bike. It is the third-largest French manufacturer, behind MBK and Peugeot1. Sherco Motorcycles is a SME multinational divided into 2 production units in Western Europe. The company operates in the secondary sector of the economy, more specifically in the motorcycle industry. From the outset, it has focused on off-road vehicles. Headquartered in Nîmes, the company was founded in 1998.
in 2002, Sherco acquired the HRD brand and entered the 50 cm³/125 cm³ enduro and supermotard market.
the strategic plan was to create 2 production units, each producing in a special and distinct field. The Spanish plant, near Barcelona, specializes in trial bikes, while the French plant, launched in 2003, specializes in enduro machines. Finally, the company designs and produces off-road motorcycles on an industrial scale, in a niche sector. Sherco's development has taken it from the world of trials to the world of enduro.
2004: Sherco is the first manufacturer to offer a range of 2-stroke and 4-stroke trials bikes. The same year, Sherco creates the first enduro motorcycle with an electronically injected 450 cm³ and 510 cm³ 4-stroke engine.
2009: Acquisition of Scorpa. For the first time, a manufacturer enters a full range of bikes in the 2009 Dakar, through the Croco Aventures team. The 250 cm³, 450 cm³ and 510 cm³ will be lining up at the start of this legendary event. Only the SR5.1i failed to make it to the finish following a crash.
2010: David Casteu, riding his Sherco SR4.5i, becomes 450 cm³ off-road World Rally Champion.
the Sherco range comprises around 25 vehicles, divided into 2 main categories: enduro and trials. The trials category comprises 6 models with displacements ranging from 125 to 300, equipped with 2-stroke engines, and recently a 125 4-stroke has seen the light of day (2018). The enduro category is divided into 2 models, Racing and Factory, each with displacements ranging from 50 to 300 for 2-stroke engines, and from 250 to 500 for 4-stroke engines.
today, Sherco has a factory in Spain and another in France. The company is present worldwide in over 66 countries, and asserts its credibility every year thanks to its performances in the Enduro, Trial, Extreme Enduro World Championships, and of course, the Dakar. Since 2017, Sherco has moved up a gear. A production unit that now covers more than 12,000 m2 and an ever-increasing number of committed employees.
