sEAT is one of those special cases whose presence in this encyclopedia may come as a surprise. After all, SEAT is first and foremost a carmaker. The brand was born on May 9, 1950, as a result of the Spanish government's desire to give its country its own brand of cars. SEAT stands for 'Sociedad Ibérica de Automóviles de Turismo'. The Italian company FIAT was asked to help create the brand, and the first SEATs will be FIAT cars manufactured under license.
